Article I: Name

Augustana Student Organization of Historical Studies

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of this organization is to create a sense of community among history majors and minors, to create opportunities for extracurricular activities centered on history, and to create public awareness of important historical issues.

Article III: Membership

Membership is open to all current Augustana students, with special focus on History majors and minors. Annual membership will begin with a list of History majors and minors for that year. Others may join the organization by attending events or subscribing to the e-mails list. No membership dues will be required.

Article IV: Offices and Election Procedure

There will be an office for President and Secretary. Leaders are elected in the spring for the following year at an event by a majority of present members. President: President will be a liaison between students in the club, the faculty advisor, and the Augustana Student Association. President may work with Phi Alpha Theta representatives to organize joint projects. President will also serve as the official representative to the community at large. Secretary: Secretary will be in charge of communicating the projects to members primarily through the organization’s e-mail. Secretary will take attendance at the organization’s events. Secretary will be in charge of the budget and working with the President to petition for funds with the Augustana Student Association.

Article V: Events/Meetings

A core group of committed students will meet periodically, inviting members at large to attend. Membership in this core group is voluntary and open to all. At these meetings, the students will plan events for the larger membership. Events will include a variety of activities to meet the organization’s purpose and will take place at selected intervals.

Article VI: Faculty Advisor

Students will elect one history professor as the faculty advisor.

Article VII: Amendment Procedure

Annually, at election time, the constitution will be reviewed and any member will be able to propose amendments. Two-thirds vote of present members is required to ratify the changes.
