Constitution of the Augustana College Serving and Learning Together (S.A.L.T.) Volunteer Program

Preamble

We, the students of Augustana College, in order to provide a means of receiving and dispersing information about volunteer and service opportunities throughout the Sioux Falls community and in order to promote and strengthen the idea of volunteerism among students, faculty, staff and administration of the college, so hereby form this association and submit ourselves to be governed by this Constitution and its by-laws.

Articles

Article I: Name
The name of this association shall be the S.A.L.T. (Serving and Learning Together) volunteer program

Article II: Purpose
The purpose of S.A.L.T. shall be to provide an avenue through which information on volunteer service opportunities and events may be distributed, to assist students in acquiring names, phone numbers, descriptions of agencies, and other means of contact with volunteer agencies throughout Sioux Falls, to provide incentives for volunteers at Augustana to continue their volunteer service, and to promote and nurture the desire to participate in volunteer opportunities among Augustana students, faculty, staff and administration.

Article III: Authorities and Powers
The authority and power granted to S.A.L.T., is provided by the Augustana Director of Outreach Ministries and the Augustan Chapel Staff. The organization is headed by both the Director of Outreach Ministries and the S.A.L.T. student coordinator.

Article IV: Membership
All students, both full and part-time, enrolled at Augustana College, and all members of the faculty, staff, and administration at Augustana College are eligible to participate in S.A.L.T. newsletter mailing list, or contacting the Augustana Chapel of Reconciliation office.

Article V: Governing Individuals and Groups
The S.A.L.T. student coordinator and the Director of Outreach Ministries. In addition, members of the S.A.L.T. Advisory Council shall assist in making decision regarding eh program. These members are selected on a volunteer basis; any person who wishes to serve on the council is able to do so. In the event that the number of council members should become larger than the Director of Outreach Ministries determines that it needs to be, selection will be based on a personal interview.

Article VI: Interpretation of Constitution and Bylaws
The interpretation of the S.A.L.T. Constitution shall be determined by the Director of Outreach Ministries, the S.A.L.T. student coordinator, and the members of the S.A.L.T. Advisory Council. Any member of the Augustana Student body, faculty, staff, or administration may request the S.A.L.T. Advisory Council to provide an interpretation of the Constitution and by-laws.

Article VII: Voting Rights
All members of S.A.L.T. are welcome to make suggestion regarding the program; however, the voting rights regarding those suggestions will be limited to the Director of Outreach Ministries, the S.A.L.T. student coordinator, and the members of the Advisory Council.

Article VIII: Amendments
Amendments to the S.A.L.T. Constitution may be proposed by anyone involved in the program. These Amendments will be acted upon and voted upon by members of the S.A.L.T. Advisory Council.

By-Laws
Election Procedure: The student coordinator for the S.A.L.T. program will be chosen by the Director of Outreach Ministries. This position will be held until the student coordinator graduates or until the Directory of Outreach Ministries deems that a replacement must be made.
