Community Service Day brings the Augustana community together in an annual springtime celebration of community and service! The day begins by gathering at the Chapel for an entertaining send-off. Students, faculty, and staff join one another in groups and head out to share the spirit of service with the city of Sioux Falls.

A large portion of the day is spent working on projects for agencies. Working along side people who work for the agency allows for participants to learn about the facilities they are volunteering at. Most of the agencies rely on the assistance of volunteers year round and this is their chance to recruit. Without volunteer help many agencies would not be able to provide there services they do for the community. Most of the agencies are non-profits that serve the underprivileged populations in Sioux Falls. These populations include AIDS patients, children with disabilities, battered women and low-income families. The services we provide them vary from painting to building houses to garbage detail.

We end with a picnic back on campus. It is a time to share our experiences and rejoice in being a community.
