Studying Off Campus
A variety of off-campus study options await students of the business administration department. From Minneapolis to Oslo, the opportunities abound!
International Business Ethics
Dr. Kevin Buell leads a study-abroad experience to Norway, and typically includes the cities of Oslo and Bodø in his itinerary. This course is designed to integrate the student’s international experience in business ethics with a background in business ethics at Augustana University. Following on-campus study of various theories, concepts, and practices needed to understand the field of business ethics in the U.S. and on an international level, the group spent 10 days in Norway. Students were presented with the opportunity to understand and define international business ethics; to develop their ability to understand other cultures; to enhance their understanding of how international business activities create ethical conflict; and to help the students improve their ethical decision-making abilities.
Marketing for Professional Sports
Professor Jaciel Keltgen has parlayed her professional connections into opportunities for marketing students to observe first-hand how a major league sports team manages its promotions and advertising. Students have been guests of the MLB Minnesota Twins and the NFL Minnesota Vikings. During field trips to Minneapolis, students have benefited from the insights of the marketing divisions prior to attending home games.
Individual Study Abroad
Study abroad experiences should be planned in close consultation with your academic advisor.
Heidi Dreyer, a junior with double majors in Professional Accountancy and Spanish has this to say about her semester-long study abroad experience in Spain: Granada, Spain is a city of about 250,000 people in Southern Spain. The location is ideal, an hour from the Sierra Nevada Mountains and an hour from the Mediterranean Sea! I went skiing in the mountains and visited the beaches quite often. Granada has a very unique culture that combines their Islamic heritage with traditional Spanish customs. While abroad, I had the opportunity to visit much of Europe and travel to Northern Africa. Visiting places with such a rich history was absolutely amazing. Traveling abroad was truly a once in a lifetime experience that taught me a great deal about myself. I lived in a Spanish homestay, which I found to be very rewarding; learning the Spanish culture and language hands-on was amazing. I have no doubt my experiences abroad, along with my knowledge of the Spanish language, will benefit me in the future.
