Find answers here to frequently asked questions concerning Viking Days 2017.

Q. Do I need to print my registration, pick up tickets, or bring anything with me to Viking Days?

A. Physical tickets are only needed for the Command Performance and the football game.

For all other Viking Days events, we will have your name on a list at each event you signed up to attend. A program for all the activities during Viking Days, including a campus map, will be available during the weekend. View the schedule for class reunion and social events.


Q. What's the plan for Friday, Oct. 13?

A. Highlights include:

  • All Day Gallery Exhibits:
  • Honor Guard Coffee & Social Time: 9-11 a.m., Siverson Lounge, Morrison Commons. Honor Guard alumni are invited to begin the weekend with coffee and conversation with classmates. Honor Guard alumni are graduates from 1967 and earlier.
  • Chapel10 a.m., Chapel of Reconciliation. Join us for this festive worship service with The Augustana Choir.
  • Honor Guard Luncheon: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Falls Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.). A festive luncheon for graduates who have celebrated their 50th class reunion, including members of the Class of 1967 (celebrating their 50th reunion this fall).
  • In Memoriam: 2 p.m. Class of 1967 gathers in the Chapel of Reconciliation to remember departed classmates.
  • Campus Tours: An afternoon tour begins at 3 p.m. at the Commons Concourse, Morrison Commons. Meet us at the Viking Days information table in the Commons for a group tour with a current Augustana student.
  • Rendezvous Presentation: Students present on their home countries at 3 p.m. on Fridays in the Back Alley. Hosted by the International Program Office and Augustana International Club, this event is free and open to the public.
  • Alumni Achievement Awards Dinner: 5:30 p.m. Social; 6 p.m. Dinner, Falls Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.). This is a special dinner event to honor our 2017 Alumni Achievement and Horizon Award winners.
  • Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet: 6 p.m. Social Hour; 7 p.m. Dinner, Starlite Room, Holiday Inn City Center. Celebrate this year's Athletic Hall of Fame honorees at this annual banquet.
  • Command Performance, featuring appearances by Augustana's bands, orchestra, choirs, percussion ensemble, Northlanders Jazz Band and more: 8 p.m., Mary W. Sommervold Great Hall, Washington Pavilion (301. S. Main Ave.). Buy tickets now.

Q. Where is the Holiday Inn City Centre located and how do I reserve a room there?

A. The Holiday Inn City Centre is located at 100 W. 8th St. in downtown Sioux Falls, at the corner of 8th Street and Phillips Avenue. Room reservations are available by calling 605.339.2000.


Q. What's the plan for Saturday, Oct. 14?

A. Highlights include:

  • Langskip 5K:  Race begins at 9 a.m. on the Augustana campus, starting at 29th Street and Summit Avenue. Proceeds benefit Augiethon (formerly Augustana Dance Marathon), Sanford Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network. Registration available soon.
  • Ole's Birthday Bash: 9-11:30 a.m., celebrate the Ole statue's 50th birthday with party favors and a photo next to your favorite campus statue — share your photo using #Ole50. 
  • Viking Days Pancake Feed: 9:30 a.m., Commons Drive and Grange Avenue. Come to the parade ready to eat pancakes and see faculty members (our guest pancake flippers!) from the Performing and Visual Arts departments. This is a fundraiser to benefit the PVA. Tickets are available at the event: $7/$5 for kids.
  • Homecoming Parade: 10:30 a.m., Grange Avenue from University Place (formerly 28th Street) to 33rd Street.
    • To accommodate the parade, no parking will be allowed on the parade route effective 6 a.m. until the end of the parade.
      • 28th Street (University Place) — From Prairie Avenue to Grange Avenue
      • Grange Avenue — From 26th Street to 33rd Street

  • Visit Heritage Park: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Heritage Park is a collection of historic Great Plains buildings dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Its facilities will be open for visitation and tours during Viking Days. Stop by Heritage Park, located on the south side of the Augustana campus, on your way to the football game. Here you will see the Rolvaag Writing Cabin, the Berdahl/Rolvaag House, Eggers Country School and Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. Admission is free.
  • Alumni Band Reunion/Pep Band Rehearsal: 11 a.m., Lillehaug Band Room. Band alumni are invited to participate in the pep band under the direction of  Dr. Christopher Unger, director of the Augustana Band, during the Vikings football game.
  • Viking Days Tailgate and Augieville (formerly Vikingland): 11:30 a.m., outside Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Bring your family for lunch and enjoy games for the kids before the Vikings kickoff. Tickets will be available at the event.
  • 25th Class Reunion Tailgate (1992): 11:30 a.m., Fellows' Presidential Residence, 37th Street and Grange Avenue. The Class of 1992 is invited to a special tailgate lunch at the President's House. Meet your classmates here before heading over to the football game. Free!
  • Viking Days Football vs. Southwest Minnesota State University: 1 p.m., Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Tickets are available.
  • Alumni Choir Rehearsal: 4:30 p.m., Augustana Choir Room (Humanities Rm. 173). All choir alumni are invited to sing under the direction of Dr. Paul Nesheim, director of The Augustana Choir. Alumni will sing with The Augustana Choir at Viking Days worship on Sunday in the Elmen Center.
  • 50th Class Reunion Event (1967): 5:30 p.m., Starlite Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.).
  • The Blast: An All-Augustana Reunion Event (recognizing the classes ending in 7 and 2): 6:30 p.m., Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.). Don't miss this! This is the ultimate Augustana party featuring food, dancing, games, door prizes, space to connect with your friends and classmates and more! We'll recognize the reunion classes ending in 7 and 2 but all classes are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Q. What should I wear Saturday night?

A. Blue and gold are always recommended! Seriously though ... business-casual attire would be appropriate.


Q. What's the schedule for Sunday, Oct. 15?

  • Alumni Choir Rehearsal: 8:30 a.m., Elmen Center.
  • Viking Days Worship: 10 a.m., Elmen Center. Join us for this festive worship service with music by the Augustana Orchestra and The Augustana Choir.
  • Viking Days Brunch: 11:30 a.m., Ordal Dining Room, Morrison Commons. Tickets available at the door.

Q. Where can I stock up on Augie gear?

A. Visit the Augustana Bookstore, located inside Morrison Commons and/or check out our Viking Days apparel.

The Bookstore's hours for the weekend are as follows:

  • Friday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the store
         Football game: 11:30 a.m. through Halftime
  • Sunday: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Q. Is the Blast, the all-Augustana reunion event at the Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.) on Saturday, Oct. 14, just for classes ending in 7 and 2?

A. No, ALL alumni are welcome to attend. The Blast is the ultimate Augustana party — a celebration of everyone with an Augustana connection — alumni, faculty/staff, parents and friends. Classes ending in 7 and 2 will be honored as their reunion class photos are taken.


Q. I don't want to miss my reunion class picture. When will it be taken?

A. For the classes of 1952, 1957, and 1962, reunion photos will be taken at the Honor Guard Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 13.

For the class of 1967, the reunion photo will be taken at the 50th Reunion Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 14 (6 p.m., Starlite Room, Holiday Inn City Centre, 100 W. 8th St.).

For the classes ending in 2 and 7 from 1972-2012, reunion photos will be taken at the Blast on Saturday, Oct. 14. The approximate photo times are as follows:

  • Class of 1972: 7:30 p.m.
  • Class of 1977: 7:40 p.m.
  • Class of 1982: 7:50 p.m.
  • Class of 1987: 8 p.m.
  • Class of 1992: 8:10 p.m.
  • Class of 1997: 8:20 p.m.
  • Class of 2002: 8:30 p.m.
  • Class of 2007: 8:40 p.m.
  • Class of 2012: 8:50 p.m.

Q. My class is having a reunion this year and I heard about another event that is not on your schedule. How can I find out more about it?

A. Some reunion class agents have planned additional gatherings for their individual classes. Information about any of those individual events can be found in your summer class letter, on our socials and reunion events page, or by reaching out to your class agent.


Q. What is the last possible day to register online?

A. Online registration closes on Sunday, Oct. 8.


Q. I don’t want to register. I just want to buy tickets. Where do I buy tickets?

A. A physical ticket is only needed for the Command Performance and the football game. For all other Viking Days events, we will have your name on a list at each event you signed up to attend and your registration counts as your ticket for the event.


Q. Is there a performing arts event over Viking Days weekend? Will there be a Viking Varieties show?

A. Make plans to join us for the Command Performance at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Washington Pavilion. This exciting concert event features appearances by Augustana's bands, orchestra, choirs, percussion ensemble, Northlanders Jazz Band and more.

We have not produced a Viking Varieties show the past few years. We are continuing to re-imagine the show and continue to consider many ideas for future productions and milestone celebrations for Augustana. We hope you'll join us for the Command Performance — a musical event that will offer something for everyone!


Q. I don’t want to order online. May I mail a check?
