The Augustana Research Institute (ARI), led by Suzanne Smith, associate vice president for Enterprise Data Analytics and Augustana Research Institute, is informed by a cross-sector team of faculty researchers from across Augustana's social science, humanities and natural sciences divisions. Augustana University students participate in various projects and work under the leadership of ARI researchers.
The Institute provides cross-sector measurement, analysis, and knowledge management research for communities and organizations throughout the region.
“The Augustana Research Institute is an excellent example of the power of shared intellectual capital,” said Dr. Pam Homan, chief strategy officer and executive vice president.
“The Institute also aligns with our mission to provide an education of enduring worth,” Homan said. “Under the leadership of our expert research team, our students will come away from each project they work on with the hands-on experience and 21st century skills tomorrow’s leaders will need to build bridges and drive change.”
The Augustana Research Institute is currently providing services to initiatives endorsed and resourced by Sioux Falls Thrive, an organization dedicated to uniting businesses, government and nonprofit sectors in strategic initiatives. Its goal is to ensure all children in the Sioux Falls metro area have the resources they need to thrive and achieve their optimal educational and career potential.
ARI is known for its analysis of organizational ecosystems which break down complex systems and bring deeper understanding to challenging issues.
In support of its initiatives, the Augustana Research Institute Advisory Council meets on a quarterly basis to serve as a sounding board — offering ideas, expertise and advice, to provide feedback and suggestions, to be a link to identify and inform faculty of student opportunities connected to courses, and to act as representatives across respective academic divisions to share Augustana Research Institute updates at divisional meetings.
