Biography
Dr. Alexis Ortiz is a physical therapist originally from Puerto Rico. He received his B.S. in physical therapy from the University of Puerto Rico-Medical Sciences Campus and his master’s and Ph.D. in physical therapy from Texas Woman’s University in Houston, Texas. He has been a professor at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Texas Woman’s University (TWU), UT Health San Antonio (UT), The University of The Incarnate Word (UIW) and now at Augustana University. He has held the position of Program Director at both UPR and UT Health and director of residencies at UIW.
Ortiz is a board-certified sports physical therapist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, fellow of The American College of Sports Medicine and 2020 graduate of the APTA Educational Leadership Fellowship. He counts with diverse publications in physical therapy, specifically sports medicine, physical activity for people living with chronic diseases such as cancer and HIV and academic disparities in physical therapy. He has presented his research at the regional, national and international levels.
