In the ever-changing digital environment, Augustana University offers a Music Technology Pedagogy certificate for educators. This certificate provides educators with the foundation of music technology to use digital resources in their classrooms. The certificate program includes curriculum on Avid Pro Tools, allowing participants to receive Avid certification, along with the Music Technology Pedagogy certificate from Augustana. Educators who complete the certificate can use these credits as an area of concentration in Augustana’s M.Ed. program.
The certificate program consists of three courses: Pro Tools Educators Workshop, Sibelius Educators Workshop and Keyboard Ensemble & Technology Workshop. Two of these courses are offered during Summer 2023, with the third being available in the near future.
The workshop covers the Avid Learning Academy (ALA) curriculum for Avid Pro Tools Associate certification, along with the Avid Learning Partner (ALP) curriculum for Pro Tools Specialist certification. Educators can also earn the Avid Certified Instructor credential during the workshop. Participants will learn basic and intermediate Avid Pro Tools operations, use of the Elements|ED digital assessment platform, and the Avid Questionmark exam system. Participants will also contribute to discussions and activities focused on curriculum development and design for music technology courses that use Avid Pro Tools software. Participants may elect to receive three graduate/continuing education credits for completing this workshop.
The Sibelius Educators Workshop provides a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of the Sibelius application. In this course, participants will discover and develop foundation-building themes and new ways of working in the software, as well as a clear understanding of the Sibelius interface, from navigating the ribbon to inputting notes in a variety of ways. Become comfortable with using shortcuts while learning how to create, edit and print your score quickly and efficiently. This course provides the foundation for the Avid Certified Specialist credential, enabling teachers to offer this curriculum at their institution. Participants may elect to receive three graduate/continuing education credits for completing this workshop.
This workshop will be offered at a later date. The Keyboard Ensemble & Technology Workshop is a five-day power-packed seminar for piano teachers, music educators and worship musicians. Daily hands-on sessions on the YAMAHA CVP-800 Series Digital Piano focus on group and individual teaching strategies, studio and performance digital ensemble techniques, current arranging and sequencing options, and much more.
