Honoring a University core value of service, members of the Augustana campus community, along with AU alumni, teamed up to support Feeding South Dakota on Tuesday. The event was part of a weeklong celebration of the inauguration of Stephanie Herseth Sandlin as Augustana's 24th president.
More than 100 volunteers turned out for the food sorting and packing event, giving a total of 138 hours to support the nonprofit, whose mission is to eliminate hunger in South Dakota.
In total, volunteers sorted and packed 12,385 pounds of food for Feeding South Dakota.
In addition, students also donated 137 transfer meals (a type of meal from their campus meal plan) to benefit Feeding South Dakota's Backpack Program.
