Title: Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance

Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance

The Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance will work closely with the Athletics Director, athletics administration, athletics department staff, and coaching staffs coordinating and leading all aspects of an NCAA compliance and rules education program. They will serve as the institutional contact on all NCAA compliance and eligibility issues and other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Athletics related to NCAA compliance. This position may also serve as the Senior Woman Administrator.

The Assistant AD for Compliance will ensure that collaborative and constructive relationships are maintained with university partners, with respect to academics and compliance, student support, student well-being programing, financial aid, Title IX and gender equity assessment to insure optimal outcomes for student athletes, athletic programs and the university at large. This position may also serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Augustana and will provide direct oversight of select sports programs and support services, including the supervision of head coaches and their staff while serving as a member of the athletics department senior staff.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Sever as a senior leader in the athletics department and Augustana campus community.
• Perform daily NCAA compliance operations of the athletics department.
• Ensure that all of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations.
• Ensure that department is compliant with Title IX, government, NCAA and conference reporting requirements, and reviews all data for accuracy. Leads efforts to correct or resolve any actions resulting in noncompliance or which present risk for the department operations.
• Work with university partners to ensure effective integration and collaboration of all Athletics NCAA compliance programs and initiatives with university operations.
• Provide leadership in the focus of the recruitment effort of the University's intercollegiate athletics program and ensures compliance with NCAA rules and regulations governing the recruitment of student-athletes by providing guidance and/or policies to team coaching staffs that engenders compliance with recruiting rules.
• Work closely with the Athletics Director and senior administration to detail strategic plans and goals, as well as appropriately monitor and report progress on the goals.
• Serve as Sport administrator responsible for management of select Athletic programs including but not limited to direct management of coaching staffs.
• Work with Athletics Director to develop strategies and initiatives in conjunction with the Office of Diversity to promote the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in intercollegiate athletics.
• Monitor implementation of gender-equity plan.
• Develop and maintain quality relationships with coaching staff and other athletic staff members by creating solid communication channels with each sport.
• Represent the Athletic Department at respective conference meetings, professional development meetings, and team post-season travel.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Three years of experience in an NCAA athletics department, preferably with Division I hockey experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, student-athlete eligibility, and related functions.
• Adherence to established NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
• Experience with online compliance software.
• Must be committed to furthering Augustana’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in NCAA Division I and Division II compliance.
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with administrative, coaching and university administrative staff.
• Ability to work well with multiple campus departments.
• Be able to work alone, one-on-one, or as part of a larger team.
• Flexibility to travel and work nights and weekends as needed.
• Proven experience and expertise in developing and maintaining positive relationships.
• Must demonstrate high energy, flexibility with schedule, and demonstrated problem solving skills.

Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience

Augustana University invites applications for the position of full-time Director of Marketing and Fan Experience. The Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience is responsible for developing and implementing a marketing and promotions plan to increase ticket sales and game attendance, and enhance the fan experience for Augustana Athletics events. The Director will play a key role in the execution of Viking Bold: The Journey to 2030, the university’s comprehensive strategic plan. Specifically related to the athletics goal within the plan: to provide student-athletes the opportunity to compete at a higher level, elevate the profile of the university, and inspire Sioux Falls to enthusiastically embrace Augustana University as the hometown team as we serve the community and integrate our mission with its needs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Develop and implement marketing and promotions plans to increase ticket sales, game attendance and fan experience for all 22 sport programs.
• Plan, coordinate and implement of all game day activities and promotions including but not limited to:
  • Public address scripts and timelines.
  • In-game promotions and giveaways.
  • In-game presentations sponsored by the University and/or the Athletics Department.
  • Marching Band performances.
  • Spirit – Cheerleaders, Dance Team, and Mascot.
  • All other game day related activities.
• Assist Athletics Communications department on social media content plans.
• Assist with fulfillment of sponsorship agreements.
• Serve as the primary point of contact in athletics for the Viking Marching Band and pep bands.
• Works with the Assistant Director of Marketing & Fan Experience with the planning and execution of the Viking Kid’s Club.
• Work with student-based clubs and community groups in order to increase attendance at athletic events.
• Serve as the supervisor of the Assistant Director for Marketing & Fan Experience and student interns.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with customer service.
• Experience working hockey games and hockey game day operations.
• Experience with Daktronics Show Control system.

Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for a Head Women’s Basketball Coach. An essential partner in advancing the university’s strategic priorities and mission, the Augustana Women’s Basketball Head Coach will report to Vice President for Athletics and commit to the philosophy statement of Augustana Athletics, which aims to provide a student-athlete centered experience committed to distinction in the classroom, excellence in competition and faithful service to community. 

The university seeks a head coach with an established record of success as a head coach or assistant coach, with a passion for recruiting. In addition to a track record of competitive excellence, the head coach for Augustana women’s basketball will build on the foundation and culture of the program and play an integral role in growing the fan base for Viking Basketball.  While overseeing all aspects of the women’s basketball program, the head coach will also be a leader within the campus and Sioux Falls communities.  

The head coach will serve as the public face of the program, creating and maintaining a positive public image while recruiting and training student-athletes to compete for conference, region, and national championships. This position must also lead and maintain a program that competes with excellence through recruiting, on-court teaching techniques, scheduling, monitoring academic progress, budget management and fundraising, while also promoting the sport throughout the university and local communities. This position shall have a strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

• Responsible for the development and implementation of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Program.
• Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of a successful recruitment program of prospective student-athletes.
• In charge of facilitating an atmosphere conducive to the continued academic and athletic success of student-athletes, and for monitoring the academic programs of team members.
• Oversee and plan all team practices and games aimed at developing and preparing the team for successful competition.
• Manage all team related administrative tasks, organizing and administering tournaments or events.
• Required to fulfill a variety of obligations to the conference and organization to which the sport is a member. This may include attending meetings and serving on committees.
• Advise the VP for Athletics and/or designee on budgetary needs and manage team budget.
• Responsible for fundraising to support the program, the athletics department, and university (i.e., camps, clinics).
• Develop and maintain positive alumni and community relations.
• Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, university staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.
• Support, abide and enforce all academic guidelines and policies of the university, athletics department to insure academic progress of the student-athlete.
• Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, NCAA Compliance, Sports Communications etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.
• Abide and adhere to all written policies, procedures, and guidelines of Augustana University and the Department of Athletics.
• Represent the institution and the department in a positive and professional manner.
• Successfully pass the NCAA Coaches Curriculum Required Courses.
• Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or designee.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Proven winner as head coach or assistant coach in the sport of basketball is required. Previous coaching experience in a collegiate level program preferred as an Assistant or Head Coach is preferred.
• Minimum three years coaching experience in the sport of women’s basketball is preferred.
• Team player who collaborates effectively with colleagues and stakeholders is expected.
• Strong recruiting skills and extensive contacts with organizations and prospective student-athletes is required. Experience in recruiting academically sound, qualified student athletes is preferred.
• Deep knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues is necessary.
• Strategic vision for the future as it relates to collegiate athletics, student-athletes and the way technology continues to impact the culture of the sport is needed.
• Excellent communicator who understands different audiences is expected.
• Ability to interact with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture.

 Athletic Administration Graduate Assistant

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for an Athletics Administration Graduate Assistant, a 12-month position within our Athletic/ESS department.

 Duties include, but are not limited to: 

The graduate assistant will work closely with our athletic administrative team to assist with the operational needs of a NCAA Division II athletic department that competes at the NCAA Division I level in men’s hockey, and will receive invaluable experience working with our programs, student-athletes, coaches, and campus staff. Assist with general athletic departmental operations. Assist the department with all game operational duties to includes venue set-up and tear-down, fan engagement and management, and supervision of student and game-day workers. Assists with management and fulfillment of sponsorships, ensuring that all signage and other inventory is properly implemented and assists with sponsorship pitch creation. Assists with select A-Club events and other donor-based initiatives. Assist Compliance with eligibility reviews, CARA logs, progress towards degree requirements, general ARMS software usage, NCAA compliance assistant, and any other compliance related duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree and admission into Augustana University’s Master’s program is required.
• Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in computer application knowledge and demonstrates initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A knowledge of athletic operations (i.e., compliance, game day management, fundraising, marketing, promotions) through an internship or undergraduate experience.
