Dean of Students

Mark Blackburn came to Augustana in 2005 and joined the Dean of Students Office staff in 2008. He earned his master's degree from Augustana and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of South Dakota.

Beth Torkelson

Beth Elam
Associate Dean of Students & IX Coordinator


Beth Elam has been an administrator in the Student Affairs Division at Augustana since 2009. She was appointed an assistant dean in 2011, and in 2014 assumed added duties as Augustana's Title IX coordinator. Elam has earned degrees from South Dakota State University (Master of Science in counseling) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sioux Falls.

Beth Torkelson

Checka Leinwall, Ph.D.
Violence Prevention Coordinator, Dean of Students Office


Checka Leinwall joined the Augustana community in 2019 and serves as the violence prevention coordinator. Her responsibilities include educating the campus community on preventing domestic and dating violence, stalking and sexual assault. She also serves as a confidential reporter and advocates for students struggling with these issues. In previous roles, Leinwall has served as the chief student affairs officer and Title IX coordinator at three institutions. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Maryland College, an M.Ed. in counselor education from The Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in higher education administration with a focus on student affairs and a minor in law from the University of Virginia.

Mogck Mariah Mogck, MA, LPC, NCC, ACT
 Mental Health & Wellness Specialist


Mariah Mogck joined the Augustana community in the fall of 2021 and serves as the mental health and wellness specialist. Her responsibilities include educating the campus community on mental health and also serves as a confidential resource for students. Previously, Mogck has worked as a counselor within the areas of addiction and severe mental illness in adults. She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology and Master of Arts in clinical mental health counseling from the University of South Dakota, and her areas of interest include addiction, LGBTQ+ issues, anxiety and mood disorders.

Beth TorkelsonRachel Rohrbach 
Administrative Support, Dean of Students Office


Rachel Rohrbach joined the Augustana community in the summer of 2021, and serves as administrative support for the Dean of Students Office. Rohrbach is originally from Georgia, and grew up on the south side of Atlanta. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in middle grades education and spent the previous five years (2015-2020) teaching sixth grade science.

Jeff Venekamp Jeff Venekamp
 Director of Student Conduct

Jeff serves as the Director of Student Conduct.  Jeff has worked with residence life, student activities, orientation, and event management for the past 10 years at Augustana. Jeff holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from South Dakota State University.

Michelle Harvey Michelle Harvey
 Director of Student Engagement 

Michelle serves as the Director of Student Engagement. Michelle is responsible for the leadership of the Student Engagement team and oversees Welcome Week and Viking Guides, Registered Student Organizations, leadership programming, and many other avenues of student engagement. Michelle holds a B.A. in English Writing and Mathematics from Morningside College and an M.A. in College Student Development with a concentration in Student Affairs from Appalachian State University.

 Director of Housing Operations

Jenna serves as the Director of Housing Operations. Jenna is originally from Sioux Falls, SD and received her B.A. in Business Communication from Augustana University and her M.A. in Student Affairs Administration from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR.

Kally Jorgenson  Kally Jorgensen
 Assistant Director of Student Engagement


Kally serves as an Assistant Director of Student Engagement and works with Civic Engagement. Kally advises SALT, Viking Days and Union Board of Governors. Kally received her B.A. in Communication and International Studies from the University of North Dakota and M.Ed. in Educational Leadership - Higher Education at Southern Methodist University.

Maggie McMahon Maggie McMahon
 Residence Hall Director

Maggie serves as the Residence Hall Director for Granskou Hall & East Hall, and is originally from Wisner, NE.  Maggie holds a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Mount Marty University and a M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado.

Katrina Atlatis Katarina Alatis
 Residence Hall Director

Katarina serves as the Residence Hall Director for Solberg Hall, and is from Weirton, WV. Katarina received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Radford University,  and a M.S.ED in Higher Education Administration from University of Kansas.

Eric Nguyen Eric Nguyen 
 Residence Hall Director

Eric serves as the Residence Hall Director for Stavig Hall, and is originally from York, PA.  Eric holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from Millersville University and a M.A. in Higher Education wih a concentration in Academic Support from Messiah University.

Biance Rojo Bianca Rojo 
 Residence Hall Director

Bianca Rojo is the Residence Hall Director for Tuve Hall. Originally from Riverside, California, Bianca got her B.A. in Marketing with a minor in Spanish Studies from Concordia University Portland, and earned her M.S. degree in College Counseling and Student Development from Azusa Pacific University. Her top 5 strengths are: Restorative, Achiever, Includer, Responsibility, & Positivity.
