Service Learning Programs

Augustana’s Service Learning Programs integrates community service with academic study to meet specific student learning goals. Faculty, in partnership with representatives of community agencies, design service learning projects that will:

  • Meet community-identified needs,
  • Advance students' understanding of specific course content,
  • And, promote civic engagement.

Critical reflective components are built into these courses to help students consider relationships between their service, the curriculum, current societal issues and their own professional goals.

Opportunities are available for mini-grants to support Service Learning Programs, both new and ongoing.

Learn and Serve LogoCo-curricular service learning differs only with regard to a link to course content. It provides service to meet a community need and includes strong reflection and evaluation components. Generally, these service activities are created and motivated under the leadership of student organizations and groups.
