The faculty are those who have been granted status as faculty members by the Board of Trustees upon recommendation of the President. The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

Title: Program Director/Assistant or Associate Professor of Athletic Training
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Exercise and Sports Science (ESS)

Augustana College seeks to fill a full-time position for Assistant or Associate Professor in Athletic Training. Our Athletic Training program is housed within the growing department of Exercise and Sport Sciences (ESS) and includes over 200 majors in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Physical Education and Sport Management. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with educational partners, health care agencies, and research centers in the Sioux Falls area.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Athletic Training or a related field. A commitment to quality teaching and active participation in the Athletic Training profession is necessary. Prior administrative experience as Athletic Training Program Director is preferred. Applicants should have prior experience in maintaining CAATE accreditation standards. Candidates must be a BOC certified athletic trainer and be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in South Dakota. Evidence of college level teaching experience is required. For a tenure-track appointment, the candidate must also demonstrate commitment to professional scholarship and the ability to involve undergraduate students in research.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as the Program Director of our CAATE accredited undergraduate Athletic Training program. The candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Athletic Training and other courses to support our other majors. Probable courses include, but are not limited to: Therapeutic Modalities in Athletic Training, General Medical Practicum, Administration in Athletic Training, Responding to Emergencies, Current Trends in Exercise and Sport Sciences. The candidate will also be assigned clinical duties, be expected to advise and mentor students, and to provide service to the college and community. The successful candidate will report to the Department Chair of Exercise and Sport Science and the Chair of the Natural Science Division.

Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras

Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a candidate for a full-time tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras in the Music Department beginning Fall 2015.

Responsibilities:The successful candidate for this position will direct the Augustana Orchestras and be responsible for recruitment and retention of top quality string, wind, brass, and percussion students working in conjunction with the instrumental faculty. This dynamic candidate will also establish and maintain working relationships with state and regional instrumental teachers and high school orchestra directors. Additional responsibilities including applied instruction and academic courses will be dependent upon the qualifications and expertise of the applicant and the needs of the department and college. The successful candidate should establish and maintain a regional and national profile within the profession and actively pursue a scholarly/creative agenda as it relates to the mission of a liberal arts college.

Qualifications: Candidates should possess a doctorate (or terminal degree) in conducting and have demonstrated success in teaching and leading significant orchestra/string ensembles at the collegiate level and or public school experience as director of an established high school orchestra program (ABD considered).

Title: Instructor/Assistant Professor - Modern Foreign Languages (French)
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Modern Foreign Languages

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages invites applications for a one-year, full-time sabbatical-leave replacement in French, beginning Fall 2015. Salary is competitive, dependent upon qualifications, and includes excellent fringe benefits. We seek a generalist able to teach French at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Responsibilities: Teach three courses per semester and one course inthe January Interim, and participation in the activities of the Department.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in French or French Studies preferred, M.A./ABD considered. Commitment to and demonstrated experience in undergraduate teaching, experience with information technology and technology-mediated instruction, and a commitment to the mission of a private, upper Midwest, liberal arts, church-related college are required.

Title: Assistant Professor - Anthropology

Augustana College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Anthropology beginning in September 2015.

Qualifications: PhD in Anthropology; evidence of effective college/university teaching; an active scholarly agenda; and a commitment to serving the campus and broader professional community.

Anthropology at Augustana College has a strong emphasis in the areas of cultural anthropology and archeology with a particular focus on the Northern Plains. The program also includes classes in Museum Studies. The anthropology program is enhanced by a close association with the Augustana College Archeology Laboratory and ongoing research activities at the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village site in Mitchell, South Dakota.

The successful applicant will teach a range of classes such as: Introduction to Anthropology; Introduction to Cultural Anthropology; Introduction to Archeology; Introduction to Archeological Field Methods; and Introduction to Biological & Forensic Anthropology. Additional classes will be assigned based on the candidate’s expertise. It is also expected that the applicant will assist in co-directing a summer archeological field school at the Mitchell site. Applicants should have an interest in four-field American anthropology. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching and excellent research, including publication in peer-reviewed outlets relevant to anthropology; careful advising of students; and participation in service to the broader academic community.

The Department of Education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applications for the position of department chair. Starting date August 2015. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. The fourteen member department offers an NCATE accredited teacher education program with majors in secondary and elementary education, special education and non–certification programs in sign language interpreting and communication disorders as well as a dynamic and growing masters degree program (http://www.augie.edu/graduate-education). The educational context in the Sioux Falls region is particularly rich and there are great opportunities for creative leadership and growth in both the undergraduate and graduate programs at Augustana College. This is a full-time, 11 month tenure track position at the Associate Professor level.

Responsibilities: The person in this role will provide leadership to a well-established and high quality department that offers programs in multiple areas, both undergraduate and graduate. Responsibilities will include providing leadership and vision for a creative and robust future, building on strong relationships with community partners and alumni, providing support to department faculty and students, providing supervision to support staff, and recruiting students and faculty. The Education Department Chair will maintain a presence in state and national teacher education and campus leadership venues.

Qualifications: PhD or EdD in an appropriate education-related disciplinary area, experience in post–secondary teaching and administration, and a proven scholarly track record. Experience teaching at the K–12 level preferred.

Title: Assistant Professor - Media Studies

Augustana College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Communication Studies beginning September 2015.

Qualifications: PhD in communication, mass communication or related field, ABD considered; evidence of effective university teaching; and evidence of potential in the area of scholarship.

Responsibilities:  The primary emphasis is for this faculty member to provide theoretical sequencing and depth in the field of social/digital media. The successful candidate will focus on how social media/digital technologies are affecting the collection, production, and dissemination of information and how these emerging technologies are affecting society. The candidate will be integral in the launching of a new Media Studies (emphasis in social/digital media) program (beginning Spring 2016) that is centered in the Communication Studies department. The candidate will teach courses in traditional mass communication areas such as media and society and mass media effects, courses in social media and courses in area of expertise.

Tenure track position beginning in fall 2015. Ideal candidates should have a professional certification such as a CPA or CMA, and a Master's degree in accounting or a related field. Candidates with documented success as a baccalaureate-level instructor will be given preference. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, scholarly and professional activities, and a willingness to be active in service to the college. Primary teaching responsibilities will likely include both introductory and advanced accounting courses and will be assigned based on the candidate’s expertise.

Title: Assistant or Associate Professor - Nursing
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Nursing

The Augustana College Nursing Department invites applications for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2015. A doctoral degree is required and the PhD in nursing or a DNP in a clinical specialty. If the doctoral degree is in a related field, the applicant must have a graduate degree in a nursing clinical specialty. Expertise in adult/gero and/or child health desired. Expertise in genetics and genomics a plus.

Duties: Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment and may have opportunity to shape a new graduate program. Teaching responsibilities in didactic, clinical, and simulation laboratory required. Courses to be taught are dependent on specialization and interests of the successful applicant.

Augustana’s progressive undergraduate nursing program is recognized for the excellence of its graduates and for its experienced, creative, and engaging faculty. The Department of Nursing has both a traditional baccalaureate program and an accelerated curriculum for students with BA/BS degrees. Planning for graduate education and a genetic nursing certificate are also in the planning process. Opportunities exist for international study and exchange opportunities for students and faculty. The Nursing Department celebrates 75 years of excellence in nursing education. The nursing program has had a first-time NCLEX pass rate of 95-100% for several years.
