The Augustana College Art Department is seeking a full-time, tenure-track position beginning fall 2014. Primary responsibilities include teaching digital photography, art education courses, and other courses within the specialization of the successful applicant. Normal teaching load is a nine-month contract: three courses per semester and one course in the January interim (3-1-3). Applicants are invited to apply with a broad range of photographic practices and experiences. Expertise in digital photography, digital media or new media practices is preferred. The ideal candidate will hold a MFA degree or equivalent, demonstrate excellence in studio work and a distinguished exhibition record or equivalent, and have certification and teaching experience in Pre-K–12. ABD or Doctorate in Art Education is desirable.
The mission of the Art Department is focused on our undergraduate students. We teach a solid foundation of design and drawing, and ask our students to interact with the faculty, each other, and our community with tolerance, acceptance, imagination and rigor. We highly respect one another’s differences and encourage our students to expand in their search for meaning. The successful candidate will develop a digital-based photography curriculum and teach our Art Education courses. We are interested in an expansive notion of image-making in community, that engages contemporary theory and approaches to photography, digital and new media, and yet will also value an understanding of stewardship, of developing traditional sensibilities of plasticity and media, and take seriously the responsibility of passing down a tradition larger than ourselves. It is critical that you are excited about art education, have experience in the classroom and can bring a vibrant studio practice, varied life experiences, and a significant exhibition record to your teaching. Augustana is a liberal arts setting, and we encourage conversations and teaching across the disciplines. Courses will be offered as electives to students outside the art major. Faculty have the opportunity of co-teaching innovative topics courses in the Senior Capstone and Civitas Honors programs and developing travel courses. Our department offers a BA major in Art; BA major in Art Education (NCATE accredited), a pre-professional BA in Art, studio emphasis, and a BA minor in Art. Our program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission: North Central Association. Our permanent collection of over 3500 objects is one of the most important collections of modern European and American works on paper in the Midwest, including 167 polaroids and gelatin silver prints by Andy Warhol, and works of Chagall, Sam Francis, Winslow Homer, Kathe Kollwitz, Picasso, Whistler, Matisse and Rouault. Recent visiting artists and critics to our program include: James Elkins, Alice Leora Briggs, Michael Goro, Eleanor Spiess-Ferris, Daniel Siedell, and cartoonists Ann Telnaes and Chris Browne.

Augustana College seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track position for Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) Department. This is a growing department serving more than 200 majors in Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Fitness Management, Physical Education and Sport Management. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with educational partners, health care agencies, and research centers in the Sioux Falls area.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess an earned doctorate in the field of exercise science or a related field by August 2014. A commitment to quality teaching and scholarship and active participation in allied professional organizations is necessary. College-level teaching experience and the ability to involve undergraduate students in research are required. Applicants should have primary expertise in biomechanics. Additional expertise in exercise science, fitness and sport management is desired. ATC credentials a plus.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be teaching undergraduate courses in biomechanics along with other courses to support majors in Exercise Sciences and Fitness Management. Possible additional courses include, but are not limited to: Motor Development, Nutrition and Exercise, Personal and Community Health, Organization and Administration, or Fitness Administration. The candidate will also be expected to advise students, coordinate practicum experiences, promote undergraduate student research, and provide service to the college and the community.

The Chemistry Department is an ACS Approved department with five tenure track faculty members. The Augustana College Nursing Department invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2014. A doctoral degree is required and the PhD in nursing is preferred. If the doctoral degree is in a related field, the applicant must have a graduate degree in a nursing clinical specialty. Nurse Practitioner credentialing is desirable, but not required. An interest in genetics, gerontology, informatics or translational research is a plus.
