Augustana University, an NCAA Division II private liberal arts institution that competes in the Northern Sun Conference, is accepting applications for the position of Graduate Assistant Track and Field Coach. The position will assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the program. Duties will include, but are not limited to, practice planning, recruiting, meet management, and other duties assigned by head coach. Experience with jumps, sprints, and multi-events preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree is required and previous experience as a track and field athlete or coach is preferred. Compensation will be a stipend and tuition waiver. This position will begin Fall 2018.

Job Title: Assistant Professor
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Chemistry

Augustana University seeks to fill a continuing-term, full-time position in the Chemistry Department at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August, 2018.

Primary responsibilities: Teaching general and organic chemistry, including lab, for majors and non-majors. There is a heavy lab component to this position. There is also potential for contributing to the teaching of First Year Seminar (FYS) for the shared core curriculum. A demonstrated dedication to undergraduate education, a willingness to be flexible, and a commitment to innovative and excellent teaching are the primary expectations for this position. Summer teaching opportunities outside of the base teaching load are also available. Research is not an expectation for the position.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry (organic chemistry emphasis); post-doctoral and prior teaching experience would be considered a plus.

Salary: Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications; excellent fringe benefits are included.

Job Title: Instructor
Position Type: Part-Time
Department: Mathematics

Augustana University seeks to fill a part-time, non-tenure position in Mathematics beginning September, 2018.

Responsibilities:  The successful applicant(s) for this position will teach two courses fall semester and three courses spring semester, which may include Quantitative Reasoning and/or courses in the calculus sequence.  Schedule is flexible, with several class times possible. 

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have a PhD in mathematics or a related field.  A Master’s degree in mathematics or a related field is a minimum qualification.  Applicants are expected to have a passion for teaching.

Job Title: Clinical Faculty/Assistant Athletic Trainer
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Athletic Training

Augustana University Department of Athletic Training invites applications for a 12-month Clinical Faculty/Assistant Athletic Trainer. The successful candidate will provide medical care to Augustana University student athletes, provide coverage for assigned athletic teams, teach courses in the Masters of Science of Athletic Training Program and Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, and serve as a clinical preceptor for athletic training students.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • This person will be the primary athletic trainer for assigned sports teams.
  • Athletic Training duties include injury prevention, first aid and emergency care, assessment, rehabilitation, health care administration, medical referral and documentation of injuries.
  • Provide practice and home event coverage for assigned teams.
  • Potential travel with assigned sports teams.
  • Administrative duties within the athletic training program.
  • This person will help to coordinate medical referrals to team physicians and other appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain high moral and ethical conduct as governed by the NATA and SDATA.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Academic Duties:

  • Teach six (6) to eight (8) academic credit hours per academic year as assigned by the Program Director (some of these academic credits are assigned to clinical faculty duties).
  • Serve as a Clinical Preceptor (CP) for Athletic Training Student’s clinic education program.
  • Perform Athletic Training Student clinical competency evaluations.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to Athletic Training Students assigned by the Program Director.
  • Actively participate in Athletic Training, ESS and Athletic Departments staff meetings.
  • Assist with recruiting and visiting with prospective Athletic Training Students.
  • Serve on the Athletic Training Program Selection Committee.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • BOC Certification Prior to Employment
  • South Dakota State Licensure Eligible

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s Degree
  • Athletic training experience at college level in a clinical environment or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with CAATE accredited athletic training education program.

POSITION:  The Augustana University Nursing Department invites applications for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor.  A research doctorate in nursing or related discipline is preferred, as is graduate level course work mental health, child health, and/or adult/gero clinical specialty areas. Additional qualifications or interest in obtaining advanced practice certification as a CNS or NP is a plus. Support for research and completion of the research doctorate is available for eligible candidates.

DUTIES:  Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to student-centered teaching excellence in an expanding nursing program within the context of the liberal arts. The learning environment offers state-of-the art active learning classrooms and high fidelity simulation laboratories.  Opportunity exists to shape new educational programming at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as the research core in nursing. Courses to be taught are dependent on specialization and interests of the successful applicant.

Augustana’s progressive undergraduate nursing program is recognized for the excellence of its graduates and for its experienced, creative, and engaging faculty.  The Department of Nursing has both a traditional baccalaureate program and an accelerated curriculum for students with BA/BS degrees. Planning for graduate education is in process.  Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary research and collaboration with colleagues in health and life sciences, as well as in social science and the humanities. International study and exchange opportunities for students and faculty are a distinguishing feature of AU’s educational programming. Job Title: Chair/Faculty

Position Type: Full Time

Department: Nursing

Augustana University is seeking a faculty leader to serve in the role of Chair, Department of Nursing beginning in August 2018. The successful applicant will have an excellent opportunity to lead a program of highly qualified and energized nursing faculty seeking to expand educational opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful applicant will have demonstrated leadership ability in nursing education and/or healthcare settings; experience with program development that involves innovation and collaboration; effective communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills; and understanding of the opportunities and challenges affecting the discipline of nursing.

This is a faculty tenure track position with a six year appointment as chair. At the conclusion of the sixth year, the applicant may be asked to continue for another term or have the option of moving to a faculty teaching role. The applicant must have experience in baccalaureate nursing education, a research doctorate in nursing or related field, and must be eligible for RN licensure in the state of South Dakota. It is preferred that the successful candidate will demonstrate achievement in teaching excellence, research, and service at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.  Experience with graduate nursing education is a plus. Full consideration will be given to those with exceptional leadership experience in clinical health-care settings.

The Nursing Department Chair has leadership and administrative responsibility for the baccalaureate program including coordination and participation in activities related to curriculum development, faculty recruitment and mentoring, student recruitment and retention, and program evaluation. The Chair ensures that the program meets all applicable regulatory, governmental and accreditation standards.
