According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The disclosure is prohibited by law
  • If the disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
  • If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
  • If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
  • If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

Monday, July 18, 2016

  • 5:34 PM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie.  Fire Alarm.  DCS Dispatch received an automated fire alarm from a University residential house and dispatched officers to investigate. Residents were evacuated and the source of the alarm was determined to be a cooking fire on a stove burner. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded, took appropiate action and then authorized reoccupation of the building. Incident report completed.

  • 10:00 AM - Humanities Parking Lot, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  A faculty member contacted Camus Safety to report his vehicle had been damaged while parked in a University parking lot. The striking vehicle left the scene without reporting the accident. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

Saturday July 9, 2016

  • 11:21 AM - Elmen Center Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Animal Neglect.  An officer was called to the Elmen Center to investigate a report of a distressed dog in a hot car. When the officer arrived Animal Control and SFPD were already on scene. Camus Safety Officer located the car owner who was attending a basketball tournament inside the Elmen and the animal was attended to. Incident report completed.

  • 9:11 PM - Elmen Center Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  METRO Communications contacted Campus Safety and requested officers assist with a reported motor vehicle accident on campus. A witness notified the owner of the damaged vehicle and identified the striking vehicle. The striking vehicle driver caused the damage while attempting to pull into a parking place. After the accident the striking vehicle drove away and parked in a different space. SFPD responded and issued red tags. Incident report completed.

  • 4:45 PM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Bicycle Theft.  Augustana student presented to the Campus Safety office and reported that their bike had been stolen.  Officer took information from the student.  Incident report completed.
  • 4:55 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2334 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Midwest Alarms contacted Campus Safety dispatch about a fire alarm notification being received for the Duluth apartments.  Officers responded to the location.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded.  When Officers arrived on scene there was smoke coming from the apartment.  A cooking accident was the cause of the alarm activation.  SFFR reset the alarm panel and the smoke was cleared from the apartment.  Incident report completed.

  • 6:15 PM - Off-Campus / Private Property.  Bicycle Theft.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report the theft of a bicycle from his place of residence off campus. The bicycle was not locked at the time of the theft. Incident report completed.

Friday, July 1, 2016

  • 8:12 AM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  Buildings and Grounds personnel notified Campus Safety of a motor vehicle accident in the Elmen Center parking lot. A visitor was driving through the lot while operating personal electronic equipment when the driver struck a light pole and knocked the pole down. SFPD responded and issued a red tag to the driver. Incident report completed.
  • 5:29 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2354 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received an automated fire alarm from the Duluth Place Apartments. Officers responded and determined the source of the alarm was cooking smoke. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded and authorized reoccupation of the building. Incident report completed.

  • 6:43 PM - Elmen Center Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  METRO Communications notified Campus Safety of a reported motor vehicle accident in the Elmen Center parking lot. Striking vehicle pulled into a parking space and struck the front end of a vehicle already parked in the opposite space. SFPD responded and issued red tags to both drivers. Incident report completed.

  • 3:45 AM - Private Property, 2405 S. Norton Avenue.  Drunkenness / Underage Consumption.  An officer conducting vehicle patrol in an alleyway observed an unconscious female in the back seat of a parked vehicle. While checking on the victim it was determined that she was likely intoxicated and underage. METRO Communications was notified and two SFPD units arrived and took charge of the situation. Victim is not affiliated with Augustana University. Incident report completed.

  • 9:30 AM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Bicycle Theft.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report the theft of a bicycle overnight. The bicycle was locked with a chain at thet time of the theft. Incident report completed.

  • 7:30 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Bike Theft.  A student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that their bike was missing.  Officers assisted the student in an attempt to locate the bike on campus.  The bike could not be located.  Incident report completed.

  • 2:00 AM - Costello Apartments, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Noise Disturbance.  Officers responded to a report of a noise disturbance in the parking lot of a University apartment building. Subjects were located inside the building and warned. Incident report completed.
  • 5:26 PM - Ronken Baseball Field, 33rd Street and Lake Avenue.  Alcohol Policy Violation.  Officers were called to the baseball field during an American Legion game due to the disruptive behavior of a group of intoxicated spectators. Subjects were advised of University alcohol policy and warned. Incident report completed.
  • 8:01 PM - Ronken Baseball Field, 33rd Street and Lake Avenue.  Verbal Threats.  Officers were called to the baseball field to provide a security escort for the umpires after a group of intoxicated spectators made verbal threats as the game was ending. Incident report completed.
  • 8:05 PM - Schoeneman Apartments, 1400 Block of West 33rd Street.  Alcohol Policy Violation.  Officers observed students in the parking lot of a University apartment building with open containers of alcohol. Students were warned and instructed to dispose of the alcohol or return inside the building. Incident report completed.

  • 10:30 AM - Schoeneman Apartments, 1400 Block of West 33rd Street.  Damage to Private Property.  A student presented to Campus Safety to file a late report of a broken vehicle windshield.  The damage is believed to have been caused by a foul ball from the University baseball field several days earlier. Incident report completed.

  • 8:59 AM - Froiland Science Complex. 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Unauthorized Entry.  Science faculty reported that an unidentified individual had gained access to an office over the weekend and the responsible party had left the door standing open. There was no sign of forced entry. A computer appeared to have been tampered with. Investigation pends for completion of an inventory of the room contents. Incident report completed.

  • 2:38 PM - Nelson Service Center, 2021 S. Menlo Avenue.  Mail Tampering / Possible Theft.  A student reported to Campus Safety that the contents of the student's campus mailbox had been tampered with several weeks earlier. A document was found in the mailbox without an expected accompanying check or a delivery envelope. Incident report completed and an investigation is pending.

  • 2:55 AM - Froiland Science Complex, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Tresspassing / Aggravated Assault.  Campus Safety Dispatch was contacted by Metro Communications and advised that Sioux Falls Police Officers were in foot pursuit of an armed male subject last seen headed towards the campus. The subject was able to gain access to the roof of the science center via construction scaffolding left unsecure by contractors. The subject then confronted SFPD on the roof and attempted to push an Officer off the roof.  The subject was subdued and placed under arrest for an assortment of criminal violations.  Campus Safety Officers were called to the scene to assist SFPD after the subject had been taken into custody.  Incident report completed.
  • 4:50 PM - Summit Avenue Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Vehicle Break In.  A Student / Resident presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported their vehicle had been broken into while their vehicle was parked behind the apartment complex.  There was no visible sign of forced entry into the vehicle and nothing was reported missing.  Incident report completed.

  • 10:50 AM- Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers were dispatched to a Fire Alarm activation.  When Officers arrived they could detect smoke in the hallway.  Officers attempted to make contact with the resident of the apartment where the smoke was coming from.  There was no answer at the door so Officers entered the apartment.  There was smoke in the apartment and it was discovered that the kitchen stove had been set to clean and the resident left the building.  Contact was made via phone to the apartment resident.  Officers cleared the smoke from the apartment.  Incident report completed.
  • 1:00 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2334 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to a fire alarm activation.  Upon arrival at the scene, there was no smoke or visible flame.  The student/resident of the apartment advised the they were cooking and the alarm went off.  SFFR responded and cleared the apartment and reset the alarm.  Incident report completed.
  • 8:01 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Well-being check.  Officers received a request to check the well-being of a student / resident.  Student was contacted and was safe.  Incident report completed.

  • 4:45 PM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Bike Theft.  An Augustana student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that their bike had been taken from the Commons bike rack.  The bike had been locked to the rack with a bike lock.  Officers completed an incident report.

  • 1:21 AM - Chapel of Reconciliation, 2125 S. Summit Avenue.  DCS Dispatch received an automated fire alarm and an officer was detailed to investigate. There was no flame or smoke present. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded and determined a sensor malfunction was the likely cause of the alarm. Incident report completed.

  • 11:30 PM - Chapel of Reconciliation, 2125 S. Summit Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers were dispatched to a fire alarm.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded.  When Officers arrived there was no visible flame or smoke observed.  SFFR arrived and cleared the building.  SFFR determined that the alarm was activated due to a power surge from an electrical storm that was in the area.  Incident report completed.

  • 10:57 AM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Suspicious Person. Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of suspicious persons attempting to gain access to a University apartment building. Officers responded but found no one matching the description. Security entrances were checked before officers were clear of the call. Incident report completed.

  • 9:45 AM - Intersection of 33rd Street and Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident, Non-Injury.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of a motor vehicle accident and dispatched an officer to investigate. The officer confirmed there were no injuries and assisted with traffic control. A vehicle in the northbound lane of  Grange Avenue had made a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle traveling south on Grange Avenue. SFPD responded and cited the driver turning left for failure to yield. Incident report completed.
