According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The disclosure is prohibited by law
  • If the disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
  • If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
  • If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
  • If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

  • 5:46 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Violation of Fire Regulations.  Officers responded to a report of a burning odor in a residential hall. Source was located in a residential room and candles were removed from the space. Incident report completed. 

Sunday, February 7, 2016

  • 9:00 AM - Chapel of Reconciliation, 2125 S. Summit Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received an automated fire alarm from the chapel. Officers investigated and determined that a pull box had inadvertantly been activated. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded and reauthorized occupation of the building. Incident report completed.

  • 10:12 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Drunkenness / Underage Consumption.  Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated student. Subject was confirmed to be intoxicated and in need of medical attention. Subject was transported by ambulance to a hospital emergency room for treatment. Incident report completed.

Friday, February 5, 2016

  • 11:30 AM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Non-Injury Motor Vehicle Accident.  During post event traffic control operations, a driver disregarded officer instructions and struck a tree while attempting to make a u-turn. SFPD was on scene at the time of the incident, filed a report and issued a red tag. Incident report completed.

  • 11:16 PM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Avenue.  Narcotics Violation.  Students living in a University owned residential home reported a marijuana odor. Officers responded, located the source of the odor and made contact with a suspect. Incident report completed and forwarded to University authorities for action.

  • 12:45 AM - East Hall, 2001 S. Summit.  Unauthorized Entry.  Officers conducting patrol observed signs of intrusion inside a restricted area of a residence hall. Officers located and confronted five subjects who were each identified as Augustana students. Incident report completed and forwarded to University authorities.

  • 6:00 AM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Sexual Assault.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report a sexual assault had occured in a residence hall overnight. The suspect is known to the victim. Campus Safety and SFPD made contact with the suspect and have initiated concurrent investigations. Incident report completed.

  • 10:50 AM - Summit Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received and automated fire alarm indicating a sensor activation in the Summit Apartments. Officer investigating the alarm determined a planned power outage in the Gilbert Science Center related to ongoing construction had triggered a false alarm. SFFR responded and reset alarm systems. Incident report completed.
  • 2:12 PM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Trip and Fall Injury.  A guest of the University tripped and fell on a damaged section of sidewalk, striking and injuring her face. A Campus Safety officer responded; however, the victim refused medical treatment. Incident report completed.

  • 9:49 PM - Elmen Ceneter, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  A student presented to Campus Safety and reported that a watch valued at $300.00 had gone missing from the Elmen Center during a workout. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 1:20 AM - 2305 S. Duluth Avenue.  Medical Emergency.  A passerby alerted Campus Safety to an unconscious subject in a private driveway. Officers investigated, located victim and summoned emergency medical assistance. Victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital emergency room for further treatment. Incident report completed.

  • 5:27 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Avenue.  Medical Emergency.  Officers were dispatched by METRO Communications to assist SFFR with a medical emergency. SFFR was already on scene. Student was transported by ambulance to a hospital emergency room for assessment. Incident report completed.

  • 12:46 AM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Drunkenness / Underage Consumption.  Officers were summoned to a dance in the Morrison Commons to deal with an ill subject. Student was determined to be extremely intoxicated and in need of emergency medical assistance. EMTs and an ambulance responded and transported the subject to a hospital emergency room for treatment. Incident report completed.

  • 4:45 PM - Solberg Parking Lot, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  False Reporting / Vehicle Tow.  Officers were advised that the owner / driver of a vehicle parked in a campus lot falsely presented a parking permit and made false statements to officers the previous day. The vehicle was towed off the campus to secure private storage. Incident report completed and forwarded to University authorities for action.

  • 1:46 PM - Intersection of 28th Street and S. Summit Avenue.  Non-Injury Motor Vehicle Accident.  An officer was called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident to assist SFPD in contacting a student.  A driver unaffiliated with the University was backing out of a parking lot and struck a student vehicle legally parked curbside in the street. Incident report completed.

  • 7:35 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  Officers responded to a complaint of a marijuana odor in a residence hall. Officers were able to locate the source of the odor and suspects identified. Incident report completed and forwarded to University authorities for action.

  • 5:00 PM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Well-Being Check.  Officers were requested to check on the well-being of a student. Student was located safe and well. Incident report completed.

  • 1:16 AM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Narcotics Violation.  Officers responded to a complaint of a marijuana odor in a residential hall. Officers were able to locate the specific source of the odor and made contact with a suspect. The suspect was interviewed and and determined to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. SFPD responded to take custody of the contraband. Subject was arrested for narcotics violations and lodged overnight at the Minnehaha County Jail. Incident report completed.
  • 9:26 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  Officers responded to a complaint of a marijuana odor in a residential hall. Officers were able to specifically locate the source of the odor and identified possible suspects. Incident report completed and forwarded to University authorities for action.

  • 3:20 AM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Well Being Check / Drunkenness.  Officers made contact with an intoxicated male subject, unaffiliated with the University, who was lost and took shelter from extreme cold in the entryway of a campus apartment building. Subject was unable to pass security entrances. SFPD responded and assisted subject in locating shelter. Incident report completed.
  • 12:51 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  An officer responded to an automated fire alarm at a campus apartment complex. SFFR also responded. Alarm was determined to be inadvertant due to technical issues. Maintenance was notified and took corrective action. Incident report completed.

  • 3:30 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a radio report of a fire alarm activation.  Officers responded and the fire alarm panel indicated that the third floor day room was where the alarm issue had originated.  SFFR also responded to the scene.  The building was evacuated.  SFFR arrived and cleared the building and reset the fire panel before residents were allowed back into the building.  The alarm activation was the result of a cooking accident.  Incident report completed.

  • 11:31 AM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2334 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a phone report of a Fire Alarm activation.  Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue and Campus Safety Officers responded to the alarm.  Upon arrival Officers found the fire alarm was activated due to a cooking accident.  SFFR reset the alarm panel.  Incident report completed.

  • 11:18 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report that personal items valued at $200.00 had been removed from a dormitory room. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 1:15 AM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Drunkenness / Underage Consumption.  Officers made contact with a student who was obviously intoxicated and carrying an open container on campus. Student's identity and residence was verified after several false statements. A preliminary breath test was administered and confirmed the student was intoxicated. Residence Life made arrangements to monitor the student the remainder of the night. Incident report completed.
  • 1:36 AM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  Officers responded to a report of a marijuana odor in a residence hall. Likely source of the odor was identified and an incident report was completed.
  • 2:50 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Drunkenness / Underage Consumption.  Residence Life summoned officers to assist in assessing a student who had become ill. After a preliminary breath test was administered the student was confirmed to be intoxicated. Residence Life made arrangments to monitor the student the remainder of the night. Incident report completed.
  • 6:39 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  911 Hang-Up Call.  Metro Communications requested Campus Safety Officers assist SFPD in locating a 911 hang-up call. Call was determined to have originated from a residence hall landline. Circumstances suggest technical issues responsible. Incident report completed.

  • 9:00 AM - Vicinity of University Place Street and Prairie Avenue.  Non-Injury Motor Vehicle Accident.  A driver proceeding west on University place swerved to miss a University Grounds vehicle backing out of a driveway, lost control of the vehicle due to road conditions and struck a vehicle parked along the side of the street. Campus Safety and SFPD responded and damaged was documented, red tags issued. Incident report completed.

  • 11:00 AM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Hit and run Motor Vehicle Accident.  Campus Safety was advised by witnesses that a University operated vehicle had been involved in a hit and run accident off campus. Vehicle was located, damage was documented and the driver was identified. Incident report was completed and SFPD took charge of the investigaton. 
  • 8:36 PM - Bergsaker Hall Parking Lot, 1109 W. 33rd Street.  Domestic Dispute.  Witnesses reported to Campus Safety Dispatch that two females were arguing loudly in a campus parkng lot. Officers made contact and identified the subjects as two sisters neither of whom are affiliated with Augustana University. Both subjects and a male who involved himself and attempted to interfere with officers were identified and instructed to leave the campus. All subjects complied with the order. Incident report completed.

  • 7:00 PM - Mikkelsen Library, 2117 S. Summit Avenue.  Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Accident.  An Augustana employee presented at Campus Safety to report damage to their vehicle which possibly occurred in the library parking lot. Vehicle owner believes the damage occurred between 10:15 AM and 7:00 PM. Damage was documented and vehicle owner declined DCS offer to notify SFPD. Incident report completed.

  • 2:45 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Unauthorized Access.  Officers removed two males unaffiliated with the University from a female residence floor after discovering them in a room after intervisitation hours. Subjects stated the responsible resident, who was not present, gave them permission to stay overnight in violation of University policy. Incident report completed.
  • 9:30 PM - Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd Street.  Vandalism.  Officers discovered a glass door damaged by a pellet gun. Damaged was documented and a report was filed with Sioux Falls Police Department. Incident report completed.

  • 12:35 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Burglary.  An officer conducting foot patrol through a dormitory came across a suspcious male exiting a private office. The male subject provided a false name and fled the scene. Officers were able to determine the subject entered the dormitory through an unlocked office window after prying off the screen. SFPD responded and initiated an investigation. Subject was later determined to be a non-Augustana affiliated individual and his correct identity confirmed. Incident report completed.

  • 4:51 PM - Nelson Service Center, 2021 S. Menlo Avenue.  Vehicle Break-In.  A student reported that a number of items were missing from inside of their car. The students property was located scattered in the parking lot with the exception of a phone charger. No evidence of forced entry was noted. Incident report completed.

  • 1:43 AM - Heritage Park, 1111 W. 33rd Street.  Suspicious Activity.  An officer was dispatched to investigate a report of suspicious activity at a campus heritage site. Two subjects were detained temporarily and identified. Incident report completed.

  • 1:00 PM - Humanities Center Parking Lot, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  HIt and Run Vehicle Accident.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report damage to their vehicle in a campus parking lot likely caused by another vehicle. SFPD responded and issued a red tag. Damage was documented and an investigation initiated. Incident report completed.
  • 4:00 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Suspicious Activity.  An Augustana student presented at Campus Safety to report a suspicious incident that had occurred within the previous 24 hours in a campus residence hall. An unknown subject wearing a dark hoodie was observed in an area of a dormitory where items of a suspicious nature were later found. Investigation initiated and an incident report was completed.
  • 4:55 PM - Bergsaker Parking Lot, 1109 W. 33rd Street.  Vehicle Vandalism.  Officers were dispatched to the Bergsaker Hall parking lot to investigate a report of vandalism to a students vehicle. Multiple deep scratches were left in the hood and door panels of the victim's vehicle. Damage was documented and an investigation initiated. Incident report completed.
  • 6:45 PM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie Avenue.  Illegal Fireworks.  Officers were conducting foot patrol when they observed a group of subjects ignite muliltple fireworks on campus in violation of Sioux Falls city ordinance. Officers were able to identify a number of the subjects. Officers made contact with one of subjects inside the home, identified and removed that person after determining none of the authorized residents were in the house. Incident report completed.
