Instrumental Auditions

Ensemble and seating placements for The Augustana Band for the Spring 2025 semester will be submitted electronically. Please complete the Audition Questionnaire/Recording Form by Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 11:59 a.m.

The Northlanders Jazz Ensemble and Blue and Gold Band will not hold Spring 2025 seat placement auditions. Dr. Unger will maintain the current string seating for the Augustana Orchestra for the Spring 2025 semester. Winds and percussion players for the Augustana Orchestra are required to submit The Augustana Band excerpts for placement within the orchestra.

Matthew Erickson serves the Augustana University School of Music as the manager of operations & community partnerships, director of instrumental studies, instructor of trombone & euphonium, as well as conductor for the Augustana Trombone and Brass Choirs.

Dr. Brian Hanegan is an associate professor and director of jazz studies at the Augustana University School of Music in Sioux Falls. He directs the Northlanders Jazz Ensemble, AU Jazz Combo and AU Rock Combo, teaches studio saxophone, jazz improvisation, saxophone quartet and the history of jazz, blues and rock. In addition, he supervises the annual Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival. 

Dr. Christopher Unger is an associate professor and serves as the conductor of both the Augustana Band and Orchestra. He began his tenure at the university in September 2015.
