Day of Percussion at AU

January 2026 will mark the beginning of an annual event for the Augustana School of Music (SoM), known as the Augustana Day of Percussion. The event will feature an entire day of interactive masterclasses, All-State one-on-one help sessions, as well as chamber music performances.

The 2026 Augustana Day of Percussion will feature guest artist Heartland Marimba. Alongside Heartland Marimba, local and regional high school and collegiate percussion students and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in clinics, ensemble work and coaching. An afternoon showcase will also feature Dr. Marco Schirripa of Central Michigan University, who will perform selections from “Pixel Masterworks."

The cost for Augustana's Day of Percussion is $10. Cash, check or credit card are accepted at registration on the morning of Jan. 22.

About the Featured Artist

Heartland Marimba began in 2014 as a 6-day summer festival of five events and a workshop at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. To date, Heartland Marimba has performed more than 200 concerts, published 80+ works for marimba and percussion, as well as commissioned 30+ pieces.

Embedded in its platform is a deep passion to bring marimba performance to communities of all sizes, especially small towns and under-served communities.
