Refund/Repayment Policy

For students who withdraw from the institution or from individual classes, the amount of a student's tuition, standard fees, room and/or meal plan will be refunded 100% during the first week of the term. Course-specific fees will not be refunded after the eighth calendar day of the term. Beginning on the eighth calendar day of the term, charges will be calculated on a prorated basis. No refund is given after the eighth week of the term. Students who have a credit balance due to federal aid overages will be refunded via direct deposit within 14 calendar days of the disbursement date. Credit refunds due to other circumstances will be processed once federal aid is refunded. 
 

ATTENTION students enrolled for January Interim (J-Term): Up to four credit hours can be taken during J-Term at no charge to the student IF the student is enrolled full-time during the preceding fall term, the subsequent spring term or both. A student who enrolls ONLY for interim will be charged at the normal undergraduate per-credit rate. If the student then enrolls for the spring term, that student will be entitled to a refund of paid charges. A 100% refund of tuition will occur for the first two days of the term if the student drops the J-Term class. No refund is given after the first week of J-Term.

For students who withdraw or stop attending classes before completing 60% of the term, a portion of the total federal aid received, excluding work study, will need to be returned to the department of education. The amount which must be returned is determined by the Federal Formula for Return of Title IV Funds (Section 484B of the Higher Education Act). The amount to be returned is determined by dividing the number of calendar days completed in the term by the total number of calendar days in the term. The order of return of funds as prescribed by the Department of Education regulations as follows: Federal Unsubsidized Loan, Federal Subsidized Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan. Federal Pell Grant, and the Federal SEOG Grant. 

The responsibility of returning unearned Title IV aid is shared between the University and the student. Federal aid that has been disbursed to a student's account may need to be returned to the federal programs. In addition, a student who receives a cash disbursement of federal aid may need to repay all or a portion of that aid, as specified by law. If the amount of federal aid disbursed is less than the amount of federal aid that could have been disbursed, the student may be entitled to a late disbursement of federal aid. If a student received student financial aid funds as a cash disbursement to cover non-institutional living expenses, such as off-campus room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and child care expenses, the student may owe a repayment to the school (or to the lender for a student loan), if the cash disbursement was greater than the student's living expenses up to the time of withdrawal. According to the federal regulations, any student who owes a repayment on a federal grant or who is in default on a student loan is ineligible to receive additional federal financial aid at any institution of higher learning until such grant repayment has been made or until arrangements are made to repay a defaulted student loan.

• Date of a Student’s Withdrawal — the earlier of 1.) the date the student officially withdraws or 2.) the date the student begins the withdrawal process. The beginning of the withdrawal process is the date the student contacts the Student Services Office with notification of intent to withdraw.  For a student who does not officially withdraw, the midpoint of the term will be used as the withdrawal date. If the Registrar’s Office receives confirmation from all of a student’s faculty that a student has ceased attending all courses without explanation, the Registrar will withdraw that student from all courses. The first day of missed class will be used as the last date of attendance for students who never attended (for federal reporting purposes; billing will use the drop date for student charges).
• Calendar Days in the Term — counted starting with the first day of the term and ending with the final day of the term (inclusive). Scheduled breaks of five days or more are not counted.
• Calendar Days Completed — counted starting with the first day of the term, and ending with the date of withdrawal (inclusive). Scheduled breaks of five days or more are not counted.
• Institutional Charges — tuition, fees, room and meals (if the student is on campus), music lessons, and course or program fees.
• Non-Institutional Charges — any charges except those listed under institutional charges, including but not limited to: books and supplies, off-campus room and meals, parking fines, etc.
• Post-Withdrawal Disbursement — may be indicated if the withdrawn student was otherwise eligible to receive the “earned aid” portion of federal funds, and any loan application was certified prior to the withdrawal date. The University shall notify a student (or the student’s parents in the case of a PLUS loan) of any post-withdrawal disbursements which could be made. The student (or parent) will have fourteen days in which to respond to the offer, either accepting or rejecting the late disbursement of a loan.
• Federal Funds — include Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG Grant, Federal Teach Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and Federal Parent PLUS Loans.
• Order of Return of Federal Funds — as follows, Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, Federal Direct Subsidized Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal PLUS Loan, Federal Pell Grant, and Federal SEOG.
• Disbursed Funds — those funds that were posted to your student account after eligibility for the funds has been established.
