Camps, Festivals and Competitions

Augustana hosts several annual events on campus that promote the arts:

  • Augustana Band Festival — Each November, students from high schools in four states participate in workshops and rehearsals for three days prior to a Grand Finale Concert. The dates for the 58th Annual Festival are November 13 and 14, 2015.

  • The "VikeSing" Choral Festival  With a focus on choral skills, this event is directed by Dr. Paul Nesheim and is open to area choral students and their directors. The 2016 dates are January 15 - 16.

  • The Augustana High School Art Invitational Exhibition — Open to area high school artists, recommended by their teachers. The 2016 Invitational runs January 7 - 22.

  • The 20th annual Siouxland Trombone Festival — Featuring world-renowned musician Doug Yeo, professor of Trombone at Arizona State University, as the guest artist, the Festival , set for April 7-8 at Augustana University. A concert featuring Yeo and the Augustana Band and College & Community Band will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at the Washington Pavilion.

  • Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival — 50 high school bands representing Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa participate in this annual March festival slated for March 7 - 8, 2016. The 2016 event is the 42nd Anniversary year of this popular festival.

  • Summer Music Camp is set for June 5 - 10, 2016, and will be led by Dr. Paul Schilf along with professors from the Augustana Department of Music. You'll find the finest in musical instruction, performance opportunities and fun for six days.  On line registration will begin in February 2016.
  • Jazz Camp — A four-day camp held each July for 7th-12th grade musicians. The camp is held in conjunction with the annual Sioux Falls Jazz Festival, hosted by the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society. The 2016 camp dates are coming.
