Parking Enforcement

The Department of Campus Safety enforces all parking regulations on campus property. The City of Sioux Falls enforces all parking ordinances related to city street parking. Both the Department of Campus Safety and the Sioux Falls Police Department enforce violations of city ordinance on campus (i.e. parking in a fire lane, handicapped parking violations).

Parking citations issued by the City of Sioux Falls are yellow in color and payment must be made to the City of Sioux Falls. For questions or concerns about city street parking or city issued citations you may contact the City of Sioux Falls Public Parking Office at 605.367.8170 or the Sioux Falls Police Department at 605.367.7212.

Parking Citations issued by the Department of Campus Safety are orange in color. Parking citation fines are automatically billed to your student account.  The Department of Campus Safety also submits License Plate numbers to the State Department of Motor Vehicle in the case of vehicles that are not registered with the University.  Campus parking fines shall be paid at the Business Office. Receipts will be issued at the time of payment. Failure to pay fines assessed against student vehicles will result in notification to the Registrars Office to withhold all transcripts and grades until the obligation is paid.

Towing from Campus

The Department of Campus Safety makes every effort to notify the owner of a vehicle before towing the vehicle from campus.  The Department of Campus Safety maintains a database with all citations issued.  When a vehicle has received multiple citations, a letter or email is sent to the registered owner, and a bright lime green decal will be placed on the vehicle to warn the owner that future violations will result in the vehicle being towed from campus at the owners expense.  Vehicles parked in fire lanes or obstructing traffic may be towed immediately without prior notice to the owner.

When towing for special events the vehicle is moved to an on-campus location where it will be safe and out of the events area.  The major events are usually move in day, homecoming, Boe Forum and home football games.  Every effort is made to make notification of these events.  Please make yourself aware of signs in your dorm or by the parking lot itself.

The Department of Campus Safety understands that towing a vehicle is very expensive and this is done as a last resort.  We ask that all vehicle owners follow all parking regulations to avoid fines and the potential of the vehicle being towed.
