Here are some frequently asked questions that often come up regarding room selection. If you have additional questions or concerns, contact studentaffairs@augie.edu.
Room Selection
Q: I'm a current first-year student. Can I live with my friend who is a current third-year student?
A: Yes! You can room with students of any year.
Q: I want to live in a Wagoner Hall suite with my three friends. Can all four of us sign up together?
A: If you and three others are hoping to live in a suite together, you can sign up as a group of four and select specific spaces within your suite on selection day. We encourage you to have a backup plan in case all Wagoner Hall Suties are full at your appointment time.
Q: I will be studying abroad during the fall semester. What should I do?
A: You can contact Student Affairs to let us know about your situation. We will help you identify a space for the spring.
Q: What happens if there aren’t any rooms left when I arrive on Room Selection Day?
A: We anticipate having enough bed space for everyone who lives on campus, however, we expect to be very full so most students should plan to reside in a double space with a roommate.
Q: What if I don't get the kind of housing I want?
A: During Room Selection Day, you can add your name to a waitlist after signing up for a room. We try to offer spaces to students on the waiting list as they become available, but there is no guarantee your preferred space will become available.
Residency Requirement/Living Off Campus
Q: Who is required to live on campus?
A: Augustana requires all first- and second-year students to live on campus. Your high school graduation date, not your academic classification based upon credits, is used to determine your classification in relation to the 2-year residency requirement.
Q: I'm currently a first-year student, but I will be a junior based on credits at the start of next year. Am I eligible to sign up for East Hall, apartments or theme houses?
A: No. For housing purposes, your class year is determined by the year you graduated high school, not by credit hours earned.
Q: How do I get approval to move off campus if I am a first- or second-year student?
A: Please visit Living Off-Campus for information about off-campus approvals.
Housing Contract
Q: Do I have to sign a housing contract on Room Selection Day?
A: Yes. Acknowledgment of the terms of the housing contract is a required step of the housing application.
Q: Can I cancel my housing contract if I change my mind about living on campus?
A: First- and second-year students are required to live on campus unless approved by Student Affairs. Third-year students and above may cancel their housing by June 1 of the contract year without penalty. After June 1, students who cancel will receive a $400 cancellation fee and forfeiture of their $100 housing deposit.
Housing Options
Q: Who can live in apartments or theme houses?
A: These housing options are available to third-year students and above.
Q: What if I am married or have a family? Can we live on campus?
A: Yes! Costello Hall is an apartment complex designed with you in mind. Costello houses married students and/or students with families. If you are interested in Costello Hall, contact Student Affairs to inquire about availability and the application process.
