The Augustana University Sociology Department supports the study of social life, change and the causes and consequences of human behavior in relation to existing systems in society. The department facilitates further areas in study of criminology & deviance, law, family & community services and medicine & health care systems.

Amelia Jibben ‘25, of Sioux Falls, is a criminal justice and anthropology double major with a concentration in forensics. Jibben interned with the South Dakota State Penitentiary over the summer where she was able to get hands-on experience in the prison system. There, her job duties included listening to inmates' complaints and doing her best to assist them.
Augustana is excited to once again host its annual Arthur Olsen Student Research Symposium, set to take place on Saturday, April 13, at the Froiland Science Complex, located on the university’s campus.
In the fall, Augustana University brought back its criminal justice major after nearly 35 years — adding to the list of interdisciplinary academic programs being developed as part of Augustana’s strategic plan Viking Bold: The Journey to 2030.
