Augustana is committed to providing an environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of each individual.
The Department of Campus Safety office is located on the first floor of the Morrison Commons, and officers are available 24 hours a day year round, including weekends and holidays, to provide protection and service to students, staff and visitors. The Campus Safety Officers provide a Campus Escort Program for persons walking on campus and maintain the lighted pedestrian routes. They place Campus Safety Notices in residence halls and academic buildings when necessary, and they present Crime Prevention Programs that cover sexual abuse and alcohol-related topics.
Residence halls are always locked, with access provided to residents through their Augustana identification card functioning as their key card. Visitors may gain access by calling residents on phones located outside each residence hall. All buildings are equipped with heat or smoke detectors, pull boxes, and fire extinguishers.
Campus Safety Officers are not sworn police officers and do not carry firearms. They are, however, empowered to enforce Augustana College policies and regulations and can make a citizen’s arrest under state law. All members of the campus community are encouraged to immediately report any suspicious or criminal activity to Campus Safety at 605.274.4014. For emergencies, dial 9.911 from campus phones.
