This program focuses on the transition students make as freshmen. Programs are dedicated to helping students find their niche, feel at home, and learn about themselves as students. Some of the things students can look forward to are listed on this page.
The 30-Day Challenge - A program dedicated to helping students make the transition to college life. We challenge students to stay on-campus and participate in various activities during the first month of school.
Freshmen/Parent Weekend September 28-30 - An event welcoming parents to campus and into their child's college life. This event is a great way for parents and students to reconnect at the end of the 30-day challenge.
Community Service Day - This is an educational service experience where students assist in the Sioux Falls community in various ways. Community Service Day marks the beginning of homecoming week.
Homecoming week (Viking Days) - Events will be scheduled throughout the week, including a parade and football game at the end the week.
Freshmen Service Projects - Projects dedicated to introducing Augustana students to volunteer work and serving the community. A service project will occur in both September and November.
Thanksgiving Dinner-November - An invitation to families of faculty, students, staff, and people from the community to join us for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
Semester Shutdown-December - A big event celebrating the end of the fall semester. In past years, this has included games, entertainment, arts and crafts, great prizes and giveaways. This event always includes Christmas giving. Christmas giving is an event that provides students with the chance to give back to the Sioux Falls community by giving gifts to the needy.
Tutoring - Residence Life provides tutors during evenings for students in the basement of Solberg Hall.
Southside All-Hall Kick-off - Big event to celebrate the start of the school year.
Mural Painting - Floor activity where each floor picks a theme to paint on a section of their own hallway.
Workshops - Educational workshops on time management, study skills, exam preparation and even different learning styles are presented during the fall semester.
Freshman Recharge Month (February) - February is dedicated to leadership, student involvement and getting geared up for the spring semester. In the past, we have had a few different events that highlight student organizations, time management, physical health and overall how to get a great start to second semester!
