Teacher Education Program

Why teacher education?

In the Augustana University Teacher Education Program, students experience more than 100 hours of hands-on classroom time prior to student teaching and engage in field experiences from the beginning of the program, working as tutors, mentors and classroom assistants, engaged in the following:

  • Working one-on-one in a mentoring or tutoring program
  • Observing and assisting classroom teachers
  • Providing instruction and assistance to small groups of students
  • Teaching whole-class lessons

All licensure programs culminate in a full-time student teaching experience — typically providing the opportunity for multiple placements. Opportunities for out-of-the-area student teaching are possible. Graduates are highly sought after to fill teaching positions upon program completion.
