Who is required to live on campus?
As a residential university, Augustana affirms the value of living in community together and therefore requires students to live in on-campus housing. The university has a 2-year residency requirement.
What percentage of students live on campus?
More than two-thirds of Augustana's full-time students live on campus.
When can I choose a room for next year?
Current students are able to select a room through Augustana's Room Selection processes, which occur annually in the spring semester. Students will know their room assignment by the end of March for the following academic year.
Are the residence halls co-ed?
All buildings are co-ed by floor or wing. Granskou Hall has a co-ed floor on fifth floor. Bergsaker Granskou, Stavig and Wagoner and all theme houses and apartments have optional flexible housing where students can select roommates regardless of gender.
Can my friends of opposite gender visit me in my room?
Students may have visitors of the opposite gender in their residence hall room from 10 a.m. - 2 a.m.
May my friends stay overnight?
Overnight guests of the same gender are permitted in your room for up to two consecutive nights.
Are pets permitted in the residence halls?
Only fish are allowed in the residence halls.

What furniture is provided in residence halls, apartments and theme houses?
Residence hall rooms are furnished with curtains, beds, closets/wardrobes, dressers, desk chairs, desks and a Microchill unit. Apartments and theme houses are furnished with bedroom, living room, and dining room furniture; the exact type and amount of furniture varies by the size of the apartment or house.
Am I allowed to decorate my room?
There are a few guidelines that students should keep in mind as they begin to decorate. Items that cannot be removed without damaging the walls, shelves or furniture should not be used. No structural or electrical alterations (including installation of ceiling fans) may be made. Any damages will result in a charge and possible disciplinary action to the student and their roommate.
Are refrigerators permitted in the residence halls?
Residence hall rooms come equipped with a Microchill unit — a fridge, freezer and microwave — at no additional cost. All apartments and theme houses have a full size refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen. Small fridges for personal use must be less than 4.0 cubic feet.
Am I allowed to have a microwave?
The Microchill unit included in residence hall rooms includes a microwave. There are also microwaves in the kitchens of each building. Students living in theme houses and apartments (except Balcer, Nelsen and Svendsbye) should bring their own microwave at 1000 watts or less.
Can I cook in the residence halls?
Students are welcome to cook in the designated kitchens in each residence hall. Cooking in other areas of the hall is not permitted due to fire safety and sanitation concerns.
Will I have access to cable TV?
If a student wants cable in their residence hall room, apartment or theme house, they must contact Midcontinent Communications directly to setup a cable subscription. Cable TV is available in the common areas of every residence hall.
Are lofts permitted in residence hall rooms?
All of the residence halls have modular furniture, meaning students can use the individual pieces in their room to create a multitude of loft configurations. The student's Viking advisor (VA) and hall director can offer guidance on the variety of lofting options.
If I bring some of my own furniture, will Augustana remove and store furniture already provided?
No. Students are required to retain all furnishings already provided in their room, apartment or house.
Are residence halls open during holiday breaks?
Residence halls remain open during all holiday periods except for Christmas and Spring Breaks. Students will be charged $5 per night if they need to stay during these vacation periods, unless they meet specific criteria.
Is alcohol permitted in campus housing?
The possession and use of alcoholic beverages in university-owned housing is prohibited, except in designated theme houses and apartments where a majority of residents are 21 years of age or older.
