Jennie Holland, Health Sciences Program manager of the nursing department, is the recipient of the 2021 Augie Pride Award. Augustana President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin presented Holland with the award on Wednesday, May 19, at the Service Awards Ceremony and Retirement Recognitions in the Elmen Center. The Augie Pride Award recognizes exceptional service to the university.

Always humble, Holland was surprised by the announcement. Her parents were present to help her accept the award, along with her husband, Peter, and their children, Wyatt, Blake and Kensi.

One co-worker wrote, “Jennie is the pride of the nursing department. She greets everyone with a friendly smile, warm manner and respect, and is the ‘go to’ person for most everything. Her attention to detail is extraordinary. She is organized, keeps her inbox below 15 emails and unflappable.” Her nominator went on to explain, “We just had a successful accreditation visit, and I have a whole new level of appreciation for how Jennie exemplifies the values of Augustana University.”

Known for being hard working, cheerful and ready to help, Holland consistently goes the extra mile for faculty and students.

“Jennie is the heart and soul of the nursing program. She exemplifies Augustana’s core values when interacting with others. She leaves a great first impression with visitors, a reflection of the nursing department and the university. Frequently, during ‘advising season,’ I visit with Jennie to seek out help with challenging situations. She is a wealth of information and is always happy to help and share her knowledge,” said another nominator. “Her ‘can-do’ attitude, outgoing personality and caring attitude make her worthy of the Augie Pride Award.”

Holland does not seek the spotlight, but “always goes the extra mile for each and every one of our students,” a nominator said. “She is always the unsung hero and the one who tries to fade into the background. Jennie truly deserves a moment of recognition and appreciation for all she has done and continues to do.”

Twenty-nine awards have now been presented since 1999.
