In partnership with the Augustana University Biology Department, the Center for Western Studies (CWS) is hosting a book discussion and signing on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m., in the Fantle Building with Augustana alumni Dr. W. Carter Johnson ‘68 and Dennis H. Knight '59, co-authors of Ecology of Dakota Landscapes: Past, Present and Future.

Johnson is a professor of ecology at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, and earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Augustana in 1968.

Ecology of Dakota Landscapes, published in June by Yale University Press, is an illustrated review of the Northern Great Plains that blends natural history and human history.

"The Center for Western Studies and the Augustana Biology Department are thrilled to bring notable Augustana alumnus W. Carter Johnson to campus to discuss his recent publication, Ecology of Dakota Landscapes. This will be a great opportunity for the Augustana community to hear from an expert on sustainability,” said CWS Education Assistant Kamryn Miller ‘18.

Augustana Professor of Philosophy and Director of Sustainability and Environmental Studies Dr. David O'Hara, Augustana alumna Mia Werger '22 and Augustana student Raghav Sriram Yogeeswari ‘24 will ask questions as part of the panel discussion.

The book will be available for purchase at the CWS on AU’s campus during the event, which is free and open to the public.
