Kristen Heckendorf, PT, DPT, NCS

Biography 

Dr. Kristen Heckendorf is a Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) with more than 15 years of clinical experience. She is also a member of the APTA neurology section. Heckendorf brings a diverse background that includes experience with neurological rehab, pain science, lifestyle health, strength and conditioning, and aquatic therapy. She divides her time between teaching and clinical practice in an outpatient neurologic setting in Central Minnesota, where she specializes in diagnosis such as brain injury, vestibular dysfunction and Parkinson’s disease. Heckendorf is passionate about providing holistic, patient-centered care, with an emphasis on identifying and addressing underlying factors that contribute to complex medical conditions.

Heckendorf’s scholarly interests include persistent post-concussion symptom management, interdisciplinary care for functional neurological disorders, and advancing DPT student confidence and clinical preparedness.

Heckendorf has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to education, serving as a clinical instructor for more than 10 years. She joined the Augustana Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT-MN) Program in 2023 as an adjunct faculty member and transitioned into a full-time role in 2026.

Heckendorf resides in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, with her husband and two children.  Outside of her professional work, she can be found playing volleyball, attending her kids sporting events or catching monster crappies on the lakes of Northern Minnesota.
