The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery will welcome back an Augustana alumnus for “Old History: The First Ten Years: Sculptures by Jacob Harvey ‘15” — offering visitors a chance to experience what Harvey described as “classic-modern” sculptures that reflect “the beauty and balance of the natural world.”
The exhibition — featuring 24 sculptures, along with drawings — will be on view from Thursday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 25. Free and open to the public, a reception for “Old History” will take place in the gallery at the Center for Visual Arts on Sept. 25, from 7-9 p.m., with an artist talk at 7:30 p.m.
“‘This exhibition “Old History: The First Ten Years’ offers a rare chance to see Harvey’s evolving body of work together and to encounter firsthand the skill, imagination and material sensitivity behind his sculptures,” said Director of the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery Dr. Lindsay Twa.
Born and raised in Sioux Falls, Harvey began carving stone in 2011 while studying at Augustana University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in art with honors in 2015. His sculptures — often freeform, organic abstractions carved primarily from Colorado alabaster — focus on simplicity and allowing the character of the material to guide the work.
Over the past decade, Harvey has expanded his practice across stone, bronze, ceramic, stained glass and wood — creating more than 60 sculptures. Harvey’s recent work explores representations of the human form, animals and mythical characters — connecting human cultural development to more primeval forces of nature.
“My ultimate goal is to find the ‘elemental cohesion’ between these materials by creating unified, mixed-media sculptures,” noted Harvey.
After working for Sioux Falls Sculptor Rick Haugen of Bronze Age Art Casting, LLC, for a decade, Harvey moved to Colorado in 2024 and joined Art Castings of Colorado in 2025 — a renowned bronze foundry in Loveland.
This exhibition is a part of an extraordinary year for the artist. In 2026 alone, Harvey has exhibited in four states, including the Fort Collins Museum of Art and two of the nation’s most prestigious sculpture festivals: Sculpture Tucson in Arizona and Sculpture in the Park in Loveland. He has also been a 2-time participant at the MARBLE/marble Stone Carving Symposium. Visitors will also recognize Harvey’s work as he has been part of Sioux Falls SculptureWalk for the past three years — earning second place for People’s Choice Award in 2025.

The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery is named after Palmer Eide and Ogden Dalrymple, pioneering Augustana professors emeriti of art. Many of their collaborative works are spread throughout its campus.
The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery is located at 30th Street and Grange Avenue, in the Center for Visual Arts at Augustana. The gallery is open to the public and free of charge. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturdays, from 1-4 p.m.
