The Augustana University Psychology Department supports scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. The department teaches research and application of theories, as well as encourages students to enrich their education by studying psychology abroad, getting involved in research and gaining hands-on experience in a practicum.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Augustana University Psychology Department is to foster understanding of human development through psychological inquiry. Through experiences in classes, laboratories and in the field, students develop critical skills in reasoning, research, data analysis and clinical work required for entry-level employment in related industries or admission into diverse graduate programs. Psychology students are continually advised with their individual post-baccalaureate plans in mind, yet all leave Augustana University equipped with foundational knowledge that allows them to engage and serve in any community.

Augustana University Upgrades Neuroscience Minor to Major in Fall 2024

Beginning in the fall, Augustana University will offer a major in neuroscience. The major will be in addition to the neuroscience minor, which launched in Fall 2022, as well as a neuroscience emphasis for psychology majors.

Beyond the Books at AU: Biology Major Gains Food-to-Table Experience Working Alongside Professor at Good Life Farms

Augustana University student Lara Matuck ‘25, of São Paulo, Brazil, is a biology major with a pre-veterinarian concentration and psychology minor. She is interning this summer at Good Life Farms in Canton, South Dakota, which is owned and operated by AU faculty.
