Augustana University took on an unexpected challenge in the spring of 2020: The COVID-19 pandemic.

The Augustana community came together in 2020 to restore the university’s nearly 40-year-old tracker pipe organ, originally dedicated on December 4, 1983.

Augustana University is proud to announce that its School of Music (SoM) has teamed up with the Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues (SFJB) Society to provide more outreach to middle and high school students in South Dakota through SFJB’s Jazz Diversity Project (JDP).

Almost 40 years ago, a love story began on Augustana’s campus. The young man happened to be Augustana President Dr. Bill Nelsen, and the woman, a community social worker named Margaret Rossow.

A celebration of the Augustana Band’s 125th anniversary will take place on Thursday, Nov. 11. The concert at the Washington Pavilion entitled “A Prairie of Voices,” will feature the All City Middle School Honor Band, as well as a commissioned piece by Dr. James M. David, an internationally-recognized composer.

Augustana University is excited to announce that School of Music Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands Dr. Larry Petersen is working with Director of Bands Dr. Christopher Unger and Percussion Instructor Daniel Sailer to bring back the Augustana Marching Band.
