Augustana University Set to Launch Second DPT Program in January 2027, Expanding Footprint to Colorado
As part of its strategic plan, Augustana is expanding its Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program to Colorado — home to one of the university’s largest alumni bases. Housed in the university’s School of Health Professions, the launch of the Augustana Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in Colorado (DPT-CO) will take place in January 2027.

Augustana University Awarded $5 Million Grant in National Storytelling Initiative on Christian Faith and Life
Augustana University has recently been awarded a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. for the “promotion and support of religious, educational or charitable purposes.” Augustana is one of 48 recipients in Lilly Endowment’s National Storytelling Initiative on Christian Faith and Life 2025.
With support from Lilly Endowment, Augustana will launch a 5-year storytelling initiative, “Sacred Discoveries: Stories of Christian Flourishing in College.”
Triple Threat: Austin Schmitt Becomes One of the First Students to Earn Three Different Degrees From Augustana
This past spring, Dr. Austin Schmitt ‘25 made history as one of the first students to earn three different degrees from Augustana University. Schmitt earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in exercise science in 2022, Master of Science in athletic training (MSAT) in 2023 and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2025. The Augustana alumnus now has a full-time fellowship with a team in the NFL.
Engineering the Future: Augustana University Launches New Hybrid Program to Meet Demands of Rapidly-Evolving Field
Augustana University is offering a new 5-year dual-degree engineering program — set to launch in Fall 2025. As part of the new program, students will take foundational courses at Augustana, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in chemistry, physics or mathematics at the university. Students will begin taking online engineering courses in their second year — offered through the University of North Dakota (UND).
This is in addition to Augustana's other dual-degree engineering options.

The Augustana Band has endured as one of the university’s most visible and beloved ensembles for more than a century. Augustana to Bring Excitement, Hockey Cheer to Midco Arena
Augustana University will soon be home to one of the first hockey cheer programs in South Dakota. Augustana Hockey Cheer will officially be added to the university’s list of club sports offerings in Fall 2026 and will support its NCAA Division I Viking Hockey Team and potentially, its club hockey teams during home games at Midco Arena.
Augustana University Accounting Graduates Ranked No. 1 in South Dakota, Top 10 in the Nation for CPA Exam Pass Rates
Augustana University accounting graduates who took the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination for the first time in 2024 had the highest pass rate in South Dakota and the sixth-highest in the nation. This is according to the latest data released by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).
