As part of a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Aug. 26, Augustana dedicated Foundation Heights — a new apartment building for students. The approximately $12 million project is part of the university’s strategic plan — Viking Bold: The Journey to 2030 — to transform the physical campus to include new and enhanced facilities.

The Center for Western Studies (CWS) at Augustana University has named Dr. Jon K. Lauck as its next executive director. He is only the center’s fourth leader since its founding by author and Augustana Professor Emeritus of English Dr. Herbert Krause in 1964.

The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery will welcome back an Augustana alumnus for “Old History: The First Ten Years: Sculptures by Jacob Harvey ‘15” — on view from Thursday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 25. Free and open to the public, a reception for “Old History” will take place in the gallery at the Center for Visual Arts on Sept. 25, from 7-9 p.m., with an artist talk at 7:30 p.m.

Augustana University’s fourth annual Critical Inquiry & Citizenship Colloquium will culminate this year with two speakers — Drs. Robert P. George and Cornel West, distinguished scholars and leading voices in American public life. The two are known for their friendship and collaboration, as well as their commitment to principled dialogue across differences. Their keynote presentation to the Augustana community, alumni and friends will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Elmen Center, with a book signing to follow.

Augustana University welcomed a total of 2,652 students — part- and full-time undergraduate and graduate students — for Academic Year 2026-27. Hailing from 46 states and 48 countries, the number marks the largest ever student body in Augustana’s 166-year history.
