Erik Colstrup said it was never his dream to become an ice technician. However, caring for the ice quickly became his passion after hanging up his hockey skates in college. Now, that passion has brought him to Sioux Falls, where he is the man behind a lot of the magic at Midco Arena — the home of the Augustana University Division I Men’s Hockey Program, as well as Men’s and Women’s Club Hockey and Club Figure Skating.

The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana University opens “The Augustana Senior Show,” which will be on view from Thursday, April 25, through Saturday, May 18, Augustana’s commencement day. A gallery reception will be held on Friday, April 26, from 7-9 p.m., with awards and artist talks at 7:30 p.m.
Donor Unknown to AU Leaves Estate Gift for Student-Led Sustainability Initiatives
In August 2023, Augustana University received an estate gift worth $660,000 to provide resources to student-led environmental sustainability initiatives. While estate gifts aren’t out of the ordinary, this one was different — Dr. Donald H. Nelson had no known connections to Augustana.
‘Augustana’s biggest cheerleader’: Mary Toso Named 2024 Augie Pride Award Winner
Mary (McConahie) Toso ‘90 was recognized with the award on Wednesday, April 17, at the university’s annual Service Awards & Retirement Recognition Ceremony in the Ordal Dining Hall in the Morrison Commons. The Augie Pride Award is given to those who go above and beyond the call of duty to provide exceptional service to the university — nominated by other AU employees.
Augustana University to Host Television Writer and Producer Dr. Eric Kaplan for Philosophy Lecture
Supported by the LaMoyne Pederson (‘63) Philosophy Enrichment Fund, Augustana is excited to announce that the university will be hosting television writer and producer Dr. Eric Kaplan on campus. His talk, "11 Questions About Questions: Regarding a Parable by Raymond Smullyan,” will take place at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 30, in the Froiland Science Complex (FSC), Room 113, and is free and open to the public.
‘We the Change Projects’ to Provide Augustana’s Journey Scholars Opportunity to Bring Change to the Community
The Journey Scholars Program at Augustana University is giving its students the opportunity to bring change to the community — an idea upon which the program was founded. A group of Journey Scholars has been assigned the task of coming up with “We the Change Projects” — a project or initiative that would help meet a need, whether it be on campus or in the broader community.
National Science Foundation Awards Augustana Faculty More Than $595K for Physics Research Through 2026
The university is excited to announce that the Augustana Physics Department has secured more than $595,000 in grant renewals from the Mathematics and Physical Science Division of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) for undergraduate research. The funding will help sustain excellence, facilitate growth and cultivate innovative and impactful teaching, learning and research.
