Position Title: Augustana Men’s Hockey Head Coach

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Athletics

Augustana University, a selective, comprehensive university affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, seeks a head coach to lead Augustana Men’s Hockey, set to take the ice in the fall of 2023. The program, which will compete at the NCAA Division I level, will be the Vikings’ 23rd collegiate sport and first of its kind in South Dakota. This new program marks a significant step forward in achieving the ambitious goals outlined in Viking Bold: The Journey to 2030, the strategic plan which serves as the road map to Augustana’s exciting and successful future:

Guided by the Viking Bold strategic plan, Augustana Athletics seeks to build a nationally competitive men’s hockey program that will compete at the NCAA Division I level and also secure the Division II Director’s Cup within five years. The university seeks a head coach with an established record of success as a head coach or assistant coach in professional, NCAA, or junior hockey.  In addition to a track record of competitive excellence and a passion for recruiting, the inaugural head coach for Augustana men’s hockey will: 

  • Set the foundation and culture for the program for years to come and play an integral role in developing a fan base for Viking Hockey
  • Assist university leadership not only in bringing collegiate hockey to Augustana and South Dakota but also in helping to ensure that the program is strategically integrated into the Augustana and Sioux Falls communities.
  • Oversee all aspects of the men’s hockey program and serve as a leader within the campus and Sioux Falls communities.
  • Serve as the public face of the program, creating and maintaining a positive public image while recruiting and training student-athletes to compete at the highest level possible
  • Lead and maintain a program that competes at NCAA Division I through recruiting, on-ice teaching techniques, scheduling, monitoring academic progress, budget management, fundraising, as well as promoting the sport throughout the university and the local community.
  • Have strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.

Position Title: Marketing and Fan Experience Graduate Assistant

Position Type: Part-Time

Department: Athletics

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for a Marketing and Fan Experience Graduate Assistant position, a 12-month position within our Athletic/ESS department. This position includes Graduate Tuition Stipend, up to 100% tuition stipend for graduate credit hours each fall, spring and summer term.  Up to 100% tuition stipend for 3 hours of graduate credit each interim. Maximum total benefit of 33 graduate credit hours over two consecutive academic years including summer sessions. This position is a hourly paid position. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:  
•Coordinate fan experience at designated home events (i.e. music, PA scripts, videoboard, sponsorship fulfillment, national anthem, halftime acts/on-court promotions, band, and spirit squad)
•Create marketing content for event awareness, videoboard & social media platforms
•Direct all campus marketing efforts and collaborate with student section leadership group
•Oversee Viking Kids Club and mascot Ole
•Lead and grow undergraduate student marketing intern program
•Assist with fan engagement content creation, fulfillment of sponsorships, special events and other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications: 
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in marketing, business administration, sports management or related field
•Must be accepted into the Augustana sports administration & leadership graduate program for the semester following start date of position 

Preferred Qualifications: 
•Internship or other experience in marketing and/or fan experience in college or professional athletics
•Demonstrated experience using brand social media platforms
•Graphic design experience
