Position Title: Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

Position Type: Full-Time/Coach 

Department: Athletics

The Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach oversees the administration, supervisor, and management of the Women’s Lacrosse program. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to the Augustana Athletics philosophy; to provide a student-athlete centered experience committed to distinction in the classroom, excellence in the community, and faithful service to community. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the NCAA DII Women’s Lacrosse Program.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of a successful recruitment program of prospective student-athletes.
  •  In charge of facilitating an atmosphere conducive to the continued academic and athletic success of student-athletes, and for monitoring the academic programs of team members.
  • Oversee and plan all team practices and games aimed at developing and preparing the team for successful competition.
  • Manage all team related administrative tasks, organizing and administering tournaments or events, and making travel/lodging arrangements.
  • Required to fulfill a variety of obligations to the conference and organization to which the sport is a member. This may include attending meetings and serving on committees.
  • Advise the Director of Athletics and/or designee on budgetary needs and manage team budget
  • Responsible for fundraising to support the program, the athletics department, and university (i.e. camps, clinics).
  • Develop and maintain positive alumni and community relations.
  • Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, university staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.
  • Support, abide and enforce all academic guidelines and policies of the university, athletics department to insure academic progress of the student-athlete.
  • Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, NCAA Compliance, Sports Communications etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Abide and adhere to all written policies, procedures, and guidelines of Augustana University and the Department of Athletics.
  • Represent the institution and the department in a positive and professional manner.
  • Successfully pass the NCAA Coaches Curriculum Required Courses.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the position /Director of Athletics and/or designee.
  • Other duties as assigned to help build the brand and promote Augustana Athletics.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience specific to coaching Men’s/Women’s Lacrosse
  •  Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to work varying hours which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience in a collegiate level program preferred as an Assistant or Head Coach.
  • Minimum three years coaching experience in the sport of lacrosse
  • Experience in recruiting academically sound, qualified student athletes.

Position Title: Assistant Coach of the Spirit Programs

Position Type: Part-Time

Department: Athletics

The Assistant Coach of the Spirit Programs is a 8-month, part-time position reporting to the Head Coach of the Spirit Programs. This position assists with facilitating and administering day-to-day operations of the Augustana Spirit Program. This position assists in conducting Spirit athletic programs including event planning, service to students or other specialized support functions, recruitment, practice and game planning, individual and team instruction, and student-athlete academic supervision.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Give individual and team instruction and feedback. Guide and instruct athletes to improve skill development and performance. Assist in leading practices.
  • Assist in game planning and preparation.
  • Set up facility and equipment.
  • Collaborate with athletic staff and university faculty to monitor academic progress of student athletes to ensure that athletic eligibility and academic standards are maintained.
  • Coordinate video and film activities.
  • Assist in the development, promotion and supervision of clinics and summer camps.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and recruiting prospective cheerleaders and dancers. Interact and correspond directly with parents and prospective cheerleaders and dancers.
  • Coordinate visit arrangements with prospective cheerleaders and dancers.
  • Participate in fund raising and alumni relations activities.
  • Attend CPR and other safety classes mandated by Athletics and receive certificate.
  • Adhere to all University, NSIC and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience specific to coaching cheerleading and dance.
  • Must be able to work varying hours which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience on the high school and collegiate level program preferred as an Assistant or Head Coach.
  • Minimum three years coaching experience and dance experience.
  • AACCA Spirit Safety certified, a completed training in Title IX and ethics policy.
  • College cheerleading and dance experience.

Position Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer -  (Men’s Basketball/Men’s and Women’s Track/Men’s and Women’s Golf)

Position Type: Full-Time

Assistant Athletic Trainer (Men’s Basketball/Men’s and Women’s Track/Men’s and Women’s Golf)

The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Head Athletic Trainer and is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries and/or illnesses to Augustana University Student-Athletes.  This position will be responsible for providing healthcare to student-athletes to include the prevention, evaluation, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of student-athletes’ injuries and illnesses under the supervision of Head Athletic Trainer. The primary sports this position will cover is Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Track, and Men’s & Women’s Golf. Beginning 2023-2024 academic year, this lead Athletic Trainer duties will change from Men’s & Women’s Track to Women’s Lacrosse.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

·       Lead Athletic Trainer for the Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Track teams (beginning 2023-2024, this positions Lead Athletic Training duties will change from Men’s and Women’s Track to Women’s Lacrosse)

·       Administrative Duties

§  Coordinator of Concussion Testing Program (Baseline testing for new student-athletes)

§  Drug Testing Coordinator (NCAA post-season testing)

·       Effectively communicate and work in conjunction with Team Physicians and Athletic Training Staff on treatment and implementing rehabilitation protocols for injured athletes as well as ensure that equipment is properly used and student-athletes are properly using the athletic training facilities.

·       This position will maintain medical records on student-athletes including physicals, insurance information, medical evaluation and rehabilitation reports, and medical referrals.

·       Attend workouts when applicable, also attend practice and game events including travel as assigned with teams and collaborate with the Head Athletic Trainer.

·       Must be able to effectively communicate with coaches regarding injured student athletes and medical policies and procedures and follow the NATA code of ethics, attend annual CEU courses and remain current with all national and state certifications and licensure.

·       Required to comply with University, NSIC and NCAA rules and regulations, supervise and educate graduate and undergraduate student athletic trainers

·       Complete all other duties assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

·       Board of Certification (BOC) required for national licensure as a certified athletic trainer.

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for a Women’s Softball Graduate Assistant position, a 10-month position within our Athletic/ESS department. This position includes a tuition benefit.

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist Head Coach in all day to day operations of the sport program
  • Coordinate student athlete activities including but not limited to recruiting, conditioning, and academic services as needed and designated by the Head Coach
  • Adhere to all NCAA and Conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies
  • Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct
  • Run all social media platforms with appropriate athletic department staff within brand guidelines
  • Run/Design/Designate specialty promo nights with appropriate athletic dept. staff
  • Run/Organize Camps/Clinics
  • On the court training
  • Scouting
  • Recruiting - on the road, keeping database up to date, *visit coordinator
  • Maintaining hallway display board
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to gain entrance into Augustana University Graduate Program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred former student-athlete
  • Preferred acceptance into an Augustana graduate studies program
  • Social media experience
