PositionTitle: Assistant Professor of Audiology

Department: Communication Disorders

The School of Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a 5/7 faculty position in Audiology beginning in August 2022. This faculty member will become a member of the faculty within the Communication Disorders program within the Sharon Lust School of Education. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: This faculty member will be responsible to teach courses in our undergraduate Communication Disorders program.  Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to student-centered teaching excellence within the context of the liberal arts. In addition to teaching courses, this faculty member would have responsibilities in advising, responsibilities with supervising students in the audiology clinic/clinicals, as well as service expectations within the School of Education.

Qualifications: An earned Aud.D degree from an ASHA accredited program and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the field of audiology are required. It will also be important for this faculty to hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA, and either hold a current license in South Dakota, or express willingness to seek that prior to the start date. Other important qualifications include: experience, commitment, and excellence in teaching and mentorship; evidence of research in the field; vision, energy, and creativity for revitalizing the audiology component of the Communication Disorders program. Candidates with prior experience in leadership and/or higher education are preferred.

PositionTitle: Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Chemistry

Augustana University seeks to fill a nontenure track, full-time position in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August, 2022. 

Primary Responsibilities: (1) Instruction of general chemistry, and either organic chemistry or inorganic chemistry courses (lecture and laboratory) for majors and non-majors, (2) instruction of nonmajor chemistry courses (lecture), and (3) academic advising of students in chemistry and biochemistry This position includes a heavy laboratory component.  Successful applicants will have a demonstrated dedication to undergraduate education, a commitment to innovative and excellent teaching, the capability to adhere to the timelines of a rigorous curriculum, and the ability to meet the flexible instructional needs of the Department. Summer teaching opportunities outside of the base teaching load may be available. Research/scholarship is not an expectation for the position. 

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry. Candidates with post-doctoral training and a strong record of undergraduate instruction in chemistry are preferred.

PositionTitle: Assistant/Associate Professor of English and Journalism

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: English and Journalism

Augustana University invites applications for a 10-month, full-time assistant or associate professor in the Department of English and Journalism beginning in August 2022. 

Responsibilities:  The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment, will specialize in composition and rhetoric as well as the digital humanities, and will possess expertise in media innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, the preferred candidate will participate in the following initiatives as set forth by the AU 2030 Vision:

  • Bridge programs, including summer offerings, for developing writers.
  • Multimedia classes and projects associated with the university’s new Midco Media Campus & Midco Production Center, as well as a willingness to learn AVID.
  • Courses and research associated with multicultural studies.

The successful candidate may contribute to courses in the First-Year Seminar program, SOPHIA (the core curriculum, which includes literature courses), and the Civitas Honors Program. 

The typical load for members of the department is three courses per semester, plus a course in two out of every three January terms.   

Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. preferred; masters and sufficient professional experience considered. Evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly productivity expected; willingness to engage in research and service; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a commitment to serving the campus and broader professional community.

The Augustana University Department of Mathematics anticipates hiring an Assistant Professor of Mathematics starting Fall Semester 2022 (8/2022). A PhD in Mathematics or Statistics in hand or imminent completion by the appointment start date is required.  Experience teaching upper division statistical courses and developing statistical curriculum is desired.   Candidates with a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture as well as a demonstrated ability to create meaningful working relationships with students, faculty, and leadership with diverse backgrounds and points of view will be given priority consideration.

POSITION:  The Augustana University Nursing Department invites applications for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor.  A research doctorate in nursing or related discipline is preferred, as is graduate level course work in pediatrics and adult/gerontology medical-surgical clinical specialty areas. Additional qualifications or interest in obtaining advanced practice certification as a CNS or ACNP is a plus. Support for research and completion of the research doctorate is available for eligible candidates. All eligible candidates will be considered.

DUTIES:  Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to student-centered teaching excellence in an expanding nursing program within the context of the liberal arts. The learning environment offers state-of-the art active learning classrooms and high-fidelity simulation laboratories.  PositionTitle: Assistant Professor of Sociology - Criminal Justice

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Sociology

Augustana University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology, beginning Fall 2022. Successful applicants must have the teaching, research, and administrative capacity to collaborate on the development of a new critical Criminal Justice major.  They should be broadly prepared to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate criminal justice courses, including intro to criminal justice, criminal procedure, policing, and corrections, as well as direct student internships.  Secondary teaching and research experience in statistics, race/ethnicity, Native American Studies, or social policy is preferred.

Augustana prides itself on excellent in-person classroom instruction, thus the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students in a liberal arts environment. The load for this position is 3-1-3; three courses per semester plus one course during our January term.
