The custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the buildings of Augustana University, and helps support a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students, faculty and fellow staff members.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain Augustana in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment; keep work areas free of hazardous conditions (i.e., grease/oil spills, sawdust, excess supplies, etc.).
- Assure that daily cleaning schedules and procedures are followed closely, assure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times.
- Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc.,
- Maintain the appearance of the housekeepers work areas.
- Minimize the waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
- Use and handle chemicals, compounds, solvents, etc. according to OSHA established guidelines and follow all established safety and procedures and precautions.
- Assure that established Infection Control and Universal Precautions practices are followed when performing housekeeping procedures.
- Vacuum, dust, and clean glass surfaces.
- Clean public restrooms, laundries, and theme houses.
- Pick up and deliver supplies and materials.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, students, family members, visitors, government agencies/ personnel and the general public
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Augustana University is seeking an individual to fill the position of full-time General Maintenance. The person selected will have a broad base of knowledge in all aspects of maintenance and have the ability to maintain and repair the buildings owned by the University. The schedule will typically be day hours, Monday through Friday. This position will participate in on-call hours that share responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Receive and follow maintenance instructions from the supervisor.

- Perform preventative maintenance in residential spaces according to annual cycles.
- Keep grounds free from trash, litter and debris.

Qualifications:

- Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude skills.
- Working knowledge of basic carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and maintenance concepts.
- Prior experience working with blueprints and using hand and power tools.
- On call responsibility: Must share on-call duties of the department.
- Prior experience or the ability/ willingness to certify in operating machinery (forklift, front end loader, small- medium sized tractors, golf carts)

Augustana University invites applications for the position of full-time Human Resources Assistant and Student Employment Program Coordinator. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
As a Human Resources Assistant and Student Employment Program Coordinator, the individual will have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks and be the first contact for daily operations of the HR Department.
The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Acts as front receptionist for the Human Resources Department and answer employee questions as well as provides policy interpretation by utilizing excellent customer service to employees, students, and the public.
- Coordinates data entry and reporting in conjunction with the payroll office to ensure efficiencies and controls.
- Compiles and maintain monthly reporting.
- Assists with campus-wide employee events including the employee picnics, service and retirement recognition, University Yuletide, United Way campaign, new employee gatherings along with Golden Viking activities.
- Facilitates post-offer process for new hires.
- Performs file audits to certify that all required documentation is collected and maintained.
- Coordinates and performs campus-wide background checks as well as completes reference checks.
- Ensures that Augustana’s Human Resources website effectively communicates the university’s current open positions and maintains the Human Resources internal employee portal.
- Facilitates the hiring process of student workers, especially during the peak seasons of Fall, Spring and Summer.
- Participates in student-employment related projects, new student orientation and move-in days, as well as process improvement meetings.
- Helps to develop and implement procedures that ensure consistency, equitability, and efficiency of the student hiring process.
- Aids in developing student employment position descriptions.
- Helps to publish student employment openings to Augie Opportunities and remove them when appropriate.
- Notifies staff and faculty when students are eligible to work and openly communicates any delays in contacting the student or any problems that occur.
Qualifications for this position:
- Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Three years of prior experience in similar positions, previous experience in Human Resources is preferred.
- Previous experience with basic accounting principles is necessary.
- Knowledge of data entry and database systems.
- A working understanding and knowledge of higher education and non-profit sector is desirable.

Department: Campus Learning Center
The Augustana University Campus Learning Center invites applications for Substitute Head Teachers. The hours for this position are 7:30 am 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. This is a year-round as-needed position.
These positions could occur in classrooms for children 1- to 3-year olds or in classrooms for 3- to 6-year-olds. A teaching position could be for a five-hour or eight-hour shift, and could be for one day or several days in a row.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree is preferred in Early Childhood, Elementary Education or Special Education.
