Support staff are employees of the University who are paid on an hourly basis, eligible for overtime pay, and whose duties are primarily non-managerial in nature.

Title: Campus Safety Officer

Position Type: Full-Time

Augustana University invites applications for the position of full-time Campus Safety Officer who operates from 12:00 a.m. to 08:00 a.m.

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the university’s students.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Patrol campus in vehicles and on foot in all weather conditions. Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of students, faculty, staff and visitors to guard against illegal or threatening activities, theft and to maintain security of premises.
  • Observe and detect any criminal activity and/or violations of the university’s rules and regulations, as well as city, state and federal laws.
  • Conduct investigations of incidents, including interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
  • Complete detailed and accurate reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, surveillance activities, and witness interviews.
  • Respond to unusual circumstances and secure emergency aid when needed, with moderate discretion for independent judgement.
  • Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures, restraining trespassers and reporting building and facility related issues such as flooding, poor or faulty lighting, trip hazards, etc.
  • Communicate with the Sioux Falls Police Department, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Paramedics Plus, Metro Communications and other Federal, State, County and local Law Enforcement agencies that provide for public safety in the immediate surrounding areas.
  • Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information to community members.
  • Take emergency and routine calls for service, record the details of the calls, dispatch appropriate security resources (local police, fire, EMS, etc.) and provide details to those responding.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to University visitors, callers, other agencies, and vendors.

Qualifications for this position:

  • Must possess a valid South Dakota Driver License or a valid Driver License of another state and can obtain a South Dakota Driver License.
  • High School Diploma necessary. Prior military, law enforcement or security experience or training preferred, but not required.  
  • Must be able to become certified in the use of an ASP baton, chemical spray, first responder emergency medical services to include the use of CPR and an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
  • Designated as an “essential employee”, the Officer may be required to remain on duty beyond normal shift and/or be available on a 24-hour basis to report for duty without prior notice due to emergencies or manpower shortages.

Title: Campus Visit Coordinator

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Enrollment

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Campus Visit Coordinator. This person’s primary responsibility involves creating exceptional campus visit experiences for future Vikings.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Organizing, coordinating, implementing, and tracking individual campus visit experiences for prospective students, parents, high school counselors and special guests
  • Organizing and implementing campus visit experiences with community partners
  • Assisting in the coordination and implementation of additional enrollment events as needed
  • Maintaining web and CRM visit experience communication and registration processes
  • Communication (direct mail, phone, email, text, social media platforms, and face-to-face) with admission staff, faculty, coaches, directors, student hosts, ambassadors, prospective students, parents, and other key constituents
  • Communicating with and training student ambassador and overnight host teams
  • Manage hospitality and aesthetic needs of enrollment reception spaces

We seek an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills who is also highly organized and attentive to details. Proficiency in Word, Excel, e-communication, web-based platforms, and data entry is necessary. The position requires multi-tasking, self-motivation, high energy, resourcefulness, creativity, and a team-oriented disposition. Two years of post-secondary education is preferred. Experience in guest relations is a plus.

Title: Custodian

The custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the buildings of Augustana University, and helps support a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students, faculty and fellow staff members. As a custodian, you will:

  • Maintain Augustana in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment; keep work areas free of hazardous conditions (i.e., grease/oil spills, sawdust, excess supplies, etc.).
  • Assure that daily cleaning schedules and procedures are followed closely, assure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times.
  • Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc.,
  • Maintain the appearance of the housekeepers work areas.
  • Minimize the waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
  • Use and handle chemicals, compounds, solvents, etc. according to OSHA established guidelines and follow all established safety and procedures and precautions.
  • Assure that established Infection Control and Universal Precautions practices are followed when performing housekeeping procedures.
  • Vacuum, dust, and clean glass surfaces.
  • Clean public restrooms, laundries, and theme houses.
  • Pick up and deliver supplies and materials.

Qualifications:

  • Must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse populations, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community.
  • High School diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements of the position:

  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for the duration of scheduled shift.

Title: Financial Aid & Scholarships Coordinator

The Financial Aid & Scholarships Coordinator provides administrative support for the Office of Financial Aid and works collaboratively with departments across campus. They must ensure compliance with Federal Title IV regulations.

Duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Manage University scholarship funds
    • Verify initial and continuing student eligibility.
    • Communicate with the business office, HR office and advancement office.
    • Collaborate with enrollment, athletics and various academic departments to ensure scholarships are awarded appropriately.
    • Be financially responsible to Augustana University, donors and students.
  • Manage all tuition benefit programs (internal and external)
    • Coordinate with HR to stay current on benefit eligibility, policy, and exports.
    • Coordinate with Enrollment on the selection of imports.
    • Coordinate with the Business Office and HR to ensure accurate benefits for Graduate Assistants.
  • Coordinate outside/private scholarships.
    • Coordinate with students and outside entities to ensure funds are received and reconciled.

  • Cross train with the Financial Aid Services Coordinator and the Applications & Scholarships Coordinator to provide back-up and support.

Title: General Maintenance - Plumber

Position Overview:   

Facility Services supports Augustana’s (AU) mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds.  Facility Services is seeking an experienced plumber with a broad base of knowledge in all aspects of commercial plumbing and maintenance, along with the ability to maintain and repair the buildings owned by the University.

Job Duties: 

Will install and maintain all plumbing equipment, along with sanitary sewer lines, in accordance with local and state codes and requirements.  In some cases, may obtain building permits and schedule all inspections. Will maintain all tools in good working order.  Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.  Must have knowledge of hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks. Must have the ability to prioritize work; that covers a multitude of responsibilities.  Must have excellent time management and decision making skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to qualify as journeyman-level knowledge equivalent to four years’ completion of education and work experience, with approximately three years of actual plumbing work experience. This may include time spent in apprenticeship or vocational training.
  • Working knowledge of many different systems is essential.
  • Three years of experience in residential, commercial or municipal plumbing.
  • Willingness to continue education as directed.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, manufacturer instructions/guidelines and interpret technical material.
  • Good oral and written communications.
  • Must adhere to AU safety procedures and training.
  • South Dakota driver’s license and good driving record.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with interfacing with a Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Experience balancing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Experience in mechanical plumbing.
  • Experience working with steam would be a plus.

Position Requirements: 

  • Required to wear maintenance uniform shirt for normal activities.
  • Utilize safety equipment as needed including eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, hazard suits, respirators, safety harnesses, etc.
  • Available to work overtime, occasional weekends and evenings as required.
  • Required to be on-call through rotations.
  • This position works under all weather conditions, with medium voltages.
  • This position may transport up to 65 pounds while ascending/descending stairs; perform overhead work; safely and effectively operate a wide variety of tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform regular investigations of facilities systems and equipment which involve accessing confined areas, vaults, tunnels, ascending/descending roofs, catwalks, and ladders; and exposure to temperature extremes, noise, heights, energized/pressurized systems, and research-related activities.

The General Maintenance and Landscaping Coordinator has the primary responsibility of maintaining and repairing the buildings owned by Augustana University using a broad base of knowledge in all aspects of general maintenance and grounds.

Duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the University’s facilities and grounds at an economical cost.
  • Receive and follow maintenance instructions from supervisor.
  • Maintain analyze, and repair plumbing fixtures, doors, windows, cabinets, systems, and equipment to minimize down time.
  • Perform installations assembling, fittings, repairs and replacements as needed.
  • Take on special landscaping and planting projects as deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Keep grounds free from trash, litter and debris.
  • Operates other equipment as needed including diesel and gas tractors with backhoe, loader or other attachments, forklift, air hammers, ditch diggers to perform various jobs such as digging trenches for electrical and sewer lines, grading, leveling, shrub and tree removal, loading /unloading, and digging post and drainage holes.
  • Performs snow removal to ensure safety of college staff and student utilizing various snow removal including front end loader, snow blowers, pick-ups with snow plows, power brooms, hand shovels, etc.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Perform emergency repairs in order of urgency and in a timely manner.
  • Understand and use technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and other reference manuals.
  • Maintain the care and use of tools, supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Report all unsafe conditions, defective equipment, to supervisor immediately.
  • Adhere to University policies, safety regulations and OSHA requirements.
  • Assure that work areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, are properly stored.

  • Performs corrective repair and preventive maintenance at all the Augustana University facilities on equipment and systems.
  • Maintains campus vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment. Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to Supervisor.

  • Works within allocated budgets.
  • Coordinates contractors for services in landscaping, irrigation, and other related areas.
  • Works closely with departments and buildings on additional landscaping needs, providing plans and installation when needed.

Title: HVAC Specialist

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Buildings and Grounds

Augustana University is looking for an individual to fill the position of a full-time, HVAC Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Augustana facilities and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the supervisor, to assure that a successful maintenance program is maintained at all times. The schedule will typically be day hours, Monday through Friday, however, when on call, shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Receive and follow maintenance instructions from the supervisor; maintain and repair refrigeration equipment and controls to minimize breakage and down time; install and maintain HVAC systems and controls of Augustana in accordance with local and state codes; perform routine maintenance and other tasks unrelated to HVAC trade as needed; give input to management on design and purchasing decisions related to refrigeration/HVAC; complete work orders and perform preventative maintenance per supervisor’s instruction; participate in continuing education to remain current with industry standards; pick up and deliver supplies and materials as needed; maintain all tools in good working order; maintain all Augustana vehicles according to supervisor guidelines; experience with computerized control systems; experience with low pressure steam boilers; maintain kitchen equipment, utilities systems, generators and underground Locates.

Specific Requirements:

The individual must possess, at a minimum, a High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Post high school technical training or on the job training is a plus. Three (3) years of HVAC experience in a commercial or industrial setting. Associate’s degree or vocational school certification may be substituted for one year of the required experience. EPA CFC (chlorofluorocarbons) Certification for refrigerants required. (Refrigerant transition and recovery certification program). It is important for the person to have the ability to make independent decisions, communicate tactfully with employees, students and families and the public, ability to seek new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices. A valid driver’s license is required.

Title: Mail Courier

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Creative Services

Augustana University invites applications for the position of full-time Mail Courier in the Creative Services department.

The Mail Courier is primarily responsible for delivering campus mail via university vehicle, sorting and processing of daily incoming and outgoing mail for the university community, managing student mailboxes in the campus mailroom location and processing/distributing packages.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for picking up mail at the postal distribution center every morning via campus vehicle.
  • Sort and process incoming and outgoing mail for the university community to ensure mailing standards and procedures are met.
  • Process incoming campus packages:
  • Scan packages as they arrive, organize them accordingly, verify student id when packages are picked up.
  • May involve assisting students in tracking down missing packages.
  • Operate postal meter machine.
  • Ensure mail pieces have proper labeling and postage so as not to delay the mailing process.
  • Ensure a smooth workflow in the mail delivery process, as well as timely and accurate delivery of all mail/packages on and off campus.
  • Assists with stuffing and sealing bulk mailings and putting them into their containers according to USPS guidelines.
  • Deliver bulk mailings to the bulk plant on the north side of Sioux Falls when necessary via campus vehicle.
  • Maintain knowledge and keep informed of postal standards, rules regulations and changes concerning U.S. Postal, UPS, and Federal Express.
  • Manage student post office boxes at campus location.
  • Sort and distribute mail into boxes.
  • Assign post office boxes to students, and to faculty, staff and organizations as needed.
  • Record and maintain information related to the occupancy of these boxes.
  • Ensure that post office boxes are maintained in operable condition.
  • Provide forwarding of mail in accordance with postal regulations.
  • Assist at the postal window in the Creative Services mailroom.
  • Process outgoing package shipments and sells USPS stamps.
  • Handle customer questions and answer the telephone.
  • Assist with the sorting and processing of mail in the Creative Services mail room.
  • Secure all stamps and money with appropriate measures.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the delivery vehicle, as well as the cleanliness of both the inside and outside of the van.
  • Train, guide and coach work study students assigned to Creative Services to assure their thorough understanding of processes and their continued motivation and successful fulfillment of their job responsibilities.

Qualifications for this position:

  • Current driver’s license.
  • Must be able to learn/operate a forklift.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Postal experience preferred or experience in business, delivery customer relations and/or other related field.
  • The ability to life up to 50 pounds.

Title: Program Coordinator 

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Genetic Counseling

Augustana University is currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Program Coordinator for the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program. This is a year-round full-time position (40 hours per week) with flexible hours. This person provides administrative support to the Master of Science in Genetic Counseling program. Responsible for coordinating activities in close collaboration with Program Leadership and internal and external constituents to assure effective and efficient program operations.

Responsibilities include:

·       Assist program directors with management of the accredited genetic counseling program.

o   Assist with resident management software (New Innovations) to manage students’ fieldwork training records.

o   Maintain students’ academic records for the purposes of accreditation.

o   Assist Program Leadership with coordination of student placements in rotations, including assisting with affiliation agreements, block schedules, and onboarding.

o   Administer didactic course evaluations.

o   In collaboration with Program Leadership, assure the program meets Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) standards; assist with preparation of ACGC accreditation self-studies and reports.

o   Assist with scheduling, preparation for, and minutes of advisory board meetings.

o   Update and maintain official documents, including the program’s student handbook.

·       Assist in admission and recruiting of students.

o   Monitor program’s website and marketing materials.

o   Provide program information to prospective students.

o   Work with internal parties on the program’s online application and applications in process.

o   Work with the Office of Graduate Education regarding applications.

o   Compile applicant data for the application review process.

o   Coordinate applicant interviews, including setting of interview dates and schedules, ordering food, preparing information and schedules for interviewers, providing and compiling scoring matrixes, and recording/analyzing important interview data.

o   Communicate with matched students regarding any questions prior to entering the program and coordinate with various internal constituents to help matched students and Augustana University prepare for their arrival.

o   Compile and report admission statistics as needed for internal or external purposes.

·       Provide general office support in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner to result in in optimum service and relationships with various constituencies.

o   Assist with the program’s finances, including, but not limited to, assisting with program orders and expenditures, reconciling purchase card reports, maintaining a current program budget, and working with internal and external constituents, such as the Business Office, Sanford Imagenetics, and UCSD on financial transfers.

o   Facilitate the logistics of adjunct faculty appointment process for part-time faculty, clinical training supervisors, graduate research project committee members, and other individuals who meet the criteria.

o   Coordinate with Sanford Imagenetics regarding dually-sponsored events, such as the annual Student Welcome Reception and Student Research Colloquium.

o   Help plan and execute Faculty Development workshops.

o   Support faculty in various ways, including, but not limited to, textbook submission, class and classroom scheduling, coordinating and troubleshooting technology for course delivery, registering students for courses, and working with Academic Affairs and Human Resources regarding part-time faculty contracts

o   Schedule meetings, take notes, book travel, register conference attendees, and complete similar tasks for program leadership, students, and guests, as needed.

o   Supervise accurate and efficient organizational systems.

·       Help with marketing and outreach efforts

o   Design and prepare marketing material for programs, including regularly updating and maintaining program webpages.

o   Coordinate preparation of periodic newsletters or other correspondence to program alumni and friends

o   Coordinate recruitment and outreach events.

Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.

Desired Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s Degree.

·       Excellent office coordination skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently manage physical and electronic files.

·       Self-motivated, detail-oriented, ability to work independently or as part of a team.

·       Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan and successfully execute plans.

·       The ability to interpret technical documents, such as affiliation agreements and accreditation standards.

·       The ability to problem solve and adapt to new situations and/or challenges.

·       Understanding of finances and ability to manage receipts and track budgets.

·       The ability to compose professional correspondence on behalf of program and program leaders.

·       Knowledge of marketing to promote the program and provide customer service.

Title: Substitute Teacher

Department: Campus Learning Center

The Augustana University Campus Learning Center is currently recruiting for Substitute Head Teachers. These positions could occur in classrooms for children 1- to 3-year olds or in classrooms for 3- to 6-year-olds.

The Campus Learning Center is open from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A teaching position could be for a five-hour or eight-hour shift, and could be for one day or several days in a row.

A Bachelor's Degree is preferred in Early Childhood, Elementary Education or Special Education.
